They had actually changed the playoff format and timing of the season in 2019, when MLS Cup was played on November 10, but then the pandemic happened and it went back to December for two years. The Timbers' off-season was December 11 to January 21! Still mad we didn't get the Union in Portland (especially since NY won).

But this year the final will once again be in November - helped along (and, indeed, forced) by the fact that the World Cup is after that, rather than in the middle of the summer.

They won 1-0. They play again on Sunday the 30th at 3pm against the winner of Montreal and NYCFC who play on Sunday the 23rd.
LAFC also progressed in the Western bracket, beating LA Galaxy 3-2 and will play the winner of Austin and Dallas.

Yes, the Union--Philadelphia's other championship contender at the moment--is back in the conference final! They slowed down a tad toward the end of the regular season and LAFC passed them by for the Supporters Shield but hopefully they'll get those two more playoff wins this season.

It was a good game but the El Trafico game was an insane game! I've got tickets for the 30th. Too bad they can't host MLS Cup barring an upset (but could certainly happen... and to them as well).

I kind of feel bad for them about that! I mean, I know their niche is their niche but even for me personally, I might have gone to the game last night if the WS wasn't happening. And would there be a parade or would they just have a rally in the stadium? When the Timbers won in 2015 they did both but the parade didn't draw more than 10 or 20,000 people, and the rally was just 5,000 die-hards at one end.

That said - Negadelphia alert - I don't like either team's chances right now. LA seems to be peaking (they'd lost to Austin twice in regular season) and will have the home crowd/time zone. These West Coast MLS Cup starts are like 1pm college football games.

Great win by the Union...when the first goal got overturned and then NYC scored, I had a moment of doubt, but then the team rolled for the rest of the game. The stadium was rocking, such credit to the fanbase for sticking with the team all these years.

I imagine that if the Union wins the MLS Cup, it would not get the full Broad Street parade treatment like the other four major professional teams would get but it would probably get one of those condensed Market Street parades like Villanova got in 2016 and 2018, just five blocks of Market Street (from 20th Street to 15th Street) concluding with a Dilworth Park rally, all over and done with during the lunch hour (though I imagine many of their fans would stick around town for an early extended happy hour).
