I always liked Flanny. Back when I played Statis-Pro Baseball as a kid, he was one of my go-to guys when replaying All-Star games. It's sad that so many others from that time will end up in this thread in the next few years.

Yeah, Flanagan was always one of my favorite non-Phillies as well when he played. And it's....funny you mention others coming to this thread. It's what I thought of when I first read the article. There have been guys like Munson, Bo Diaz and Quiz that have passed on. But this may be the first big name guy from when I was a teen phan that has passed at a "normal" life span's end. The cause not withstanding.

And I thought you were a little younger than some of us here. You remember Flanagan pitching?

I'm 37, not too much of a youngster, at least it doesn't feel that way.

My memories of Flanny were after his Cy Young years. Early 80s and up. And to be honest, most of my memories were from highlights and my stats-based baseball game(the inspiration of my love of all things statistics in baseball). TV coverage was pretty minimal down here in Alabama at that time, so it was Braves games, a few Cubs games, or nothing.

He did a great job in this series, I was really looking forward to the rest of the story.

Not sure they will be able to do it without him, his replacement has already been named, but not sure it will work out.

Terrible disease, 39 is just ridiculously too young. Very sad.

Her husband was obviously a legend and even by today's standards still a pretty funny guy IMHO. Not many couples make it to 202 total between them, makes you wonder what was in the water at that house.
