So sad. Clarke got the headlines but Rick was only a tad under him in play. Fast, shifty, with a deadly shot and could play the physical game when he had to do that. The organization hasn't had a guy like that since he left. Gone too soon. RIP.

My favorite person ever. My favorite memories with my father were watching Ali fights together. There is now a whole generation that doesn't know about the greatness of the Man himself let alone the magnificence of his boxing ability. We can only imagine what it would be like if we weren't robbed of his ability to communicate. Probably the most famous person in the world still to this day ever and he has barely spoken a public word in thirty years.

There are few people in this world that are singular, but Ali is one of them. There was nobody like him before or has been since.

One of my favorites too. I have absolutely no interest in boxing, nor have I for many years. But I was captivated by his antics out of the ring and his ability in the ring.

I'm largely with you on that. Ali was a great fighter and wonderful character, but Philly Joe was in our Philly hearts.

For the most part I agree with you also. There are things he did I did not like, I know my grandfather did not care for him.

He certainly meant a great deal to some people more in his time, he was a lightning rod for many of the issues of the 60s and 70s.

I will never forget watching Larry Holmes begging the ref to stop the fight against him. I don't think it was because he wanted the victory as much as he feared he was seriously hurting Ali and he recognized him as a iconic figure.

RIP. I may not like everything he did, but I didn't grow up in his skin and I believe that sometimes you just have to realize that greatness can be found even in people that don't always represent oneself.

This guy really did personify the Canadian love of Hockey, highly skilled, tough with an edgy temperament on the ice. Old school Hockey is defined by Howe

So sad. He gave back to life all that it threw at him. A profile in grit and determination. Losing Ali and Howe in a week is a blow to all sports phans. These are once in a lifetime people in their sport.

Former NFL head coach and influential defensive coordinator Buddy Ryan has died, agent James Solano confirmed Tuesday. He was 82.

Ryan, who coached in the NFL for 35 seasons, was known for building some of football's top defenses behind a relentlessness that focused on creating havoc on the field.

Those Buddy Ryan Eagles teams were fun to watch. His stubborn refusal to address the Eagles' deepest, darkest flaws (particularly on offense) could be maddening and he was a terrible preparation coach as evidenced by how the Eagles always started slowly on his watch (which usually put them in an insurmountable hole in the NFC East race), frequently lost to bad teams (after he turned things down a notch in practices during the week leading up to the game against the bad opponent) and went 0 for the playoffs (he always took the team on vacation in a warmer climate to prepare for the game). Ultimately, the game passed him by on defense too, as witnessed by his flop in Arizona. But, in his day, he was a defensive genius. And, it could be said that it was on his watch that Philadelphia became an Eagles first town.

RIP Buddy, your Eagles teams, while flawed, were a great joy to be a fan of. That defense was truly second to none in league history.

RIP Coach Summit, I knew one person that played for her and she simply referred to her as the best coach of any sport, either gender. I don't know that I agree she is the absolute best, but she is in the conversation. The combination of tactical game knowledge, caring for your players and leadership is hard to find.
