Casey Kasum was one of the voices of my childhood. In addition to top 40 he also was a DJ at an LA radio station. When I visited my grandmother in LA every summer for two weeks I would listen to him. I was rock deprived growing up with mostly Country Western music which I hated. One station was rock and it was daylight only.

Back in the 60's most music was AM and some big stations had powerful signals that you could hear at night (as many of you Philies phans know, catching night time signals from 1240 from far away.)

My other two voices of my childhood were Dick Clark and Wolfman Jack. I could often catch the Wolfman from San Francisco station at night.

Casey Kasum's reach was enormous. I recall listening to him on Sunday nights in Perth, Western Australia, back in the early seventies (still AM then). Incredibly, just this year, I have heard his programs from that era being repeated on the same radio station!

And thats not counting all his voice work in animation... including being the longtime voice of Shaggy on Scooby Doo.

One can merely accept that the old guard will ultimately die out. I can accept the Buddhist philosophy that one cannot hatefully wish deaht on someone like Scaife, nor celebrate his death but only understand the ultimate reality of it. (Kind of like Giles, Montgomery and Green). Life and progress marches on and leaves the dinosaurs behind.

The comment section at the end of the article on Scaife's passing in today's Washington Post were truly amazing. There are a lot of folks that can't muster your generosity towards the man.
