Philadelphia sports radio personality Steve Fredericks passed away today, at age 72, from pancreatic cancer.

FMQB sends its condolences to the friends and family of Philadelphia radio legend Steve Fredericks, who passed away from pancreatic cancer. The Philadelphia native was best known for his years in the Sports Talk format, as well as doing play-by-play for the Philadelphia 76ers, spent time on the air in New York and Boston as well.

Fredericks was a sports talk guy in Philly as long ago as the 1970s...I remember tuning into his show when the Montanez trade went down, to see if the fans in general were as pumped as I was to get Garry Maddox... and as bummed at seing Willie leave the Phillies.

Steve was from a different era... when you could do talk radio, whether sports talk or other talk, without being a complete jerk.

Steve was one of my favorite sports talk hosts back in the 70s and I loved his "Bang!" for a Sixers goal, and the way he said "Jooooooooolius" for a Dr. J slam dunk. RIP.

Loved this guy. I recall him from the 70's but late in his career, 1993, was when I listed everyday to the Steve and Mike show on 610 WIP Radio. They had a great program that year, especially since it was a great year for the Phillies.

My first computer was the Radio Shack/Tandy COCO (Color Computer) which I got for Christmas and I kept it for 2 weeks when I decided that I had to have a Commodore 64. A friend had it and the games were fantastic. The COCO didn't have much, so my mother sold it to a coworker so we could use the money to get me a C64. A few years later I bought an Amiga 2000 - fantastic machine! I spent countless hours playing Epix Summer Games on the C64 - such a simple machine but was extremely fun.
