sad to hear. i spent many a night reading the berenstain bears books to my son. his favorite was "no girls allowed". such a favorite that his grandfather (my dad) built him a clubhouse in the trees with a ladder that could be pulled up. this would be pulled up when any girls were in the area. 20 some years later i know that ladder would be down all the time for anyone to come up. except the clubhouse has collapsed in our woods. great memories.

ahhh Davy Jones, my grade school heartthrob. I actually saw him in an off-broadway production of "Oliver" before he signed with the Monkees.

Wasn't it a Broadway production? He performed with the cast on the Ed Sullivan show that featured the debut of the Beatles on live american TV.

I saw it in Los Angeles. Is that Broadway? In any event I thought he was soooooooo super cute.

And Julio, I can still even sing a lot of their songs through one verse like "Last Train to Clarksville" and "Pleasant Valley

Well, he did it on Broadway, musta been a touring company, which isn't really Off Broadway, but something billed like "Direct from Broadway".

The Monkees were rerun on MTV a decade or three ago, so a new generation had a chance to watch them then. They showed a clip of Jones joking about the girls who'd come out to see him along with their mothers and grandmothers.

Whether something is considered Broadway or off Broadway has to do with the seating capacity of the theater and only if it's in NY. Under 500 fannies and it's off Broadway. 500+ and it's considered Broadway. There is a third classification called off off Broadway for even smaller venues, but I forget the number. Under 250? Outside of NY it's a traveling company.
