For those who don't know (I wasn't sure), Binghamton is (still) the Mets' AA team. I realize baseball journeymen often become great teacher and coaches, and (relative) youth is more welcome than ever too, but I think I'd find it a little disconcerting if the Phillies were entrusting their best prospects to Jerome Williams and Tommy Joseph.

Really good career minor league numbers. (sub 3 ERA, 1.15WHIP, 11.9 K/0) AAA numbers were bad this year but was only 8 games. Seems like he would have gotten a shot with all the pitchers teams use.

I think we probably overrate the extent to which these jobs require scouting or even baseball acumen. He's a manager. And will be using scouts and analytics people who already know what they are doing instead of building that from scratch (which he certainly failed at).

But the other message it sends is - we think this guy is good, he only failed because he had bad bosses.

It kind of is, but only in that they are bigger than they've been in years, rather than playing casinos and state fairs. They also headlined the ACL festival and were the subject of two major books this year.
