I was just thinking about him the other day, funny that not one player from the Pence and Oswalt trades are on the Astros (and that Enrique Hernandez was also in that trade). Even the guy they got for Domingo Santana (Fiers) is out.

The three guys they got for Cosart are still in the Astro organization but not on their postseason roster. Marisnick is out with a thumb injury but prior then had a very strong season after being a disappointment his first three seasons. Martes is still young enough and promising enough to be a prospect. Moran probably is not at this point.

Paywalled but I believe they have some kind of free trial/discount going this week. I really feel like I am getting my money's worth from The Athletic (didn't love that NY Times article with the owners but I don't love the owners of most media companies). And I don't even follow the Sixers or Eagles, arguably their strength, as closely as other teams. I signed up mostly for hockey and national college football and it was also cool they got Rosenthal, and now their Phillies coverage is clearly growing (this not really being an example of that, since it's just an off-season soft feature, but the news/columns have increased as well).

Morton's injury last year probably cost him millions now. If he had his option picked up and gotten traded to the Astros by the Phillies at either the 2016 or 17 deadlines, he would be heading into free agency after this monster postseason and would probably be earning around three times the $7 million he will be earning in 2018.

I doubt he cares. But regardless, what happened happened this year, on that team, with those coaches and teammates. If he'd been healthy in 2016 you're looking at a whole alternate reality/butterfly effect. Most likely he is not as good on the Phillies, or on whatever team they traded him to (probably not the Astros as they weren't doing as well last year and did not acquire a starter). Who knows, maybe the Phillies trade him to the Dodgers (who had gotten Hill last deadline). Or maybe the Phillies would have traded Hellickson last year and tried to keep Morton this year (though he still might not have exercised his end of the option).

That is too bad, though kind of expected after we removed him from the 40. I am guessing the Dodgers can offer the best re-habbing resources and have no problem throwing a few extra $100K around to sign players like this that might not be contributors for a couple of years.

Per a club announcement, the Indians have agreed to a contract with righty Dan Otero. Otero will take home $1.3MM, per MLB.com’s Jordan Bastian (via Twitter). He was projected to command $1.4MM. The 32-year-old Otero has been an unmitigated bargain for Cleveland over the past two years, turning in 130 2/3 total innings of 2.14 ERA pitching despite averaging just 6.5 K/9 in that span. Otero has succeeded with unfailing command (just 19 walks since joining the Indians) and a hefty groundball rate (over 60% in each of the past two seasons).
