I had a chance to take in the final game for the Rangers this afternoon at Globe Life Park. Cole Hamels started for the Rangers.
It wasn't a good day for Hamels or the Rangers. Cole made his second straight poor start after going 8 innings, one run to win in Seattle on September 21st. At that point, he was 11-4, 3.80 ERA for the season. His last start was a 3 inning shelling by Houston (6 runs, 6 hits, 4 walks) and today it was 3 innings, 3 runs, 5 hits, 1 walk. With these two loses, he ends the season 11-6, 4.20 ERA.
I guess I am not lucky for Hamels. We saw him in Yankee Stadium back in June 2015, starting for the Phillies, and he was hammered for 5 runs, 8 hits, and walked 3, in 5 innings, to take a loss for the Phillies.
The Rangers got two runs late in the game, driven in by Nomar Mazara. Mazara finishes his second 500 plus at bat season for the Rangers (he turns 23 next April). His RBIs were his 100th and 101st of the season. He finishes 2017 with 20 home runs, matching the 20 he hit last season. Not a former Phillie, but a player some wanted in the Hamels' deal back in 2015.
