Anthony Gose has been continuing his efforts to become a pitcher at my Lynchburg Hillcats (High A Indians affiliate) after his hitting was not sufficient after a few years in the majors. He hits the mid to upper 90s with his fastball (high 97 last night) but also has a changeup and curve which are less developed. He has worked out of tight jams in the few games I have seen him pitch. Still with a few more walks than I hope but if he makes strides this year he is young enough for a shot. Last year his efforts at highA were good but fell apart at double A Rangers. I wish him well. Part of the Roy Oswald trade that was flipped to Toronto the same day. Made it to the majors with Toronto and Detroit.

I would have liked to see Altherr make it though waivers and end up in LV, but in reality, this is probably best for him.

Altherr sontantalizingly seemed like a player so many times and then disproved more. Wish him well, hope we don’t end up regretting this, but I don’t think that will be the case

Sixto Sanchez with a great first outing with the AA Jumbo Shrimp - 7innings, 1hit, 1BB, 7Ks. Still make the trade, but it will be fun to see what he becomes.

Just tuned in to the Red Sox game, and one time Phillie farmhand Jimmy Cordero came in to pitch for Toronto. I think they said it was his first appearance for the Blue Jays.

JP Crawford headed to the injured list with an ankle injury, but putting up an 111 OPS+ in 67 AB since being called up. Good for him.

Crawford always was a prospect. He could still have a productive career. In a sense, the Phils "gave up" on him - but the Segura trade was largely about "now, more than later," and so far, it looks like it was a positive move.

Alfaro is having a season where he is also a little bit better than last year though Realmuto is clearly better now. 8 HR so far with a slash of 259/319/435. Leading the league in passed balls with 6 (of course), but throwing out 5 of the 11 basestealers so far. If he ever learns how to block balls at close to a league average rate he will be above average defensively.

Both trades were "win now" trades and there is nothing wrong with that. Sixto is doing OK in AA also. We gave up real value in the trades to get real value. It is very possible we win the deals in 2019 and 2020 and lose them long term.
