Haha well we wouldn't know anything about that in Philadelphia sports.
Instead of blasting Montgomery on his way out the door, Kendrick likely will be seeing plenty of him next year, too. Montgomery has a $22.5 million player option in 2025 that he expects to exercise.
Wow. Kendrick found a way to make a bad situation worse, and needlessly insulted someone in the process.
Can we trade Walker for him?
Actually somebody floated that idea in today's chat at mlbtraderumors.com. Steve Adams who hosted the chat thought it actually made sense for both teams. It would save AZ $4.5M next year, and he pitched for them in 2017 to 2019.
I think at this point Walker is worse than Montgomery. Even if the Phillies threw in some money to offset Walker's extra contract year, Walker was worse in 2024 and hasn't been good in a year and a half. Montgomery has had one bad year after no spring training and seems a better candidate to bounce back.
Not sure where to put, but the Tigers are the first team to move on. Who would have thunk it?
The Tigers seem like the new Tampa Bay Rays, winning with bullpen games, openers, and a propensity to pinch hit for starters to get favorable matchups at any time during the game. They are a fun team to watch. Happy for Matt Vierling.
Not really sad to see the Astros lose.
On the subject of players one could potentially trade Taijuan Walker for - Josh Hader has to be on that list at this point.
Another home wildcard team goes down quickly.
We could probably have a Phillies playoff thread and an AL playoff thread (since any talk of the other NLDS will be both limited and Phillies-adjacent) starting Saturday.
And the Royals have the Orioles on the ropes, up 2-1 in the 7th.
If they can't get one run in three innings at home they will have earned it. I hope they survive.
Orioles eliminated.. wow..
The AL Central has three of the four remaining AL teams. All three had losing records in 2023. That division hasn't had more than one team over .500 since 2020.
It seems like a bigger deal than it probably is since they won 101 games last year and looked like they might take the East again this year but they were 33-33 in the second half and the gap between a 4/5 and the Royals/Orioles specifically was just probably not that big.
But clearly anything can happen.
Mets up 3-1 in the 4th. Looking like our opponent.
Wasn't sure if Matt meant this sincerely or to make fun of Phillies phans who said this kind of stuff last week.
