Yea, that is the weak spot in their roster they have not fully resolved. They traded for Burnes in the off-season and Eflin from TB in late July, but they suffered some injuries and did not have many other options.

He threw 75 pitches in 4 innings, allowed 4 hits, 1 run, struck out 3, walked 1. They lost because their offense scored one run in two games, but there are reasons for that, namely KC's pitching.

Zach's a perfectly respectable #3 pitcher whose season was somewhere between Sanchez and Suarez, and who - obviously - has now significantly out-pitched and out-healthed the guy the Phillies signed to replace him.

Not many teams actually have a better #2 than the Phillies, we're spoiled (even as we like to complain about him).

Disarray in Miami. Not sure who would want to work there. Clearly they have to find some inexpensive younger managers and coaches, but this is a pretty big purge that involves moving on from a pretty good manager who likely has told the team he has better options than staying.

Well, this is a probably more a purge of people from the A-Rod/Samson years (and, probably, years and years before that) then a bunch of people Kim Ng brought in (and some of those people already left when she did). As always nothing truly gets fixed with a bad owner and franchise but I'm sure Bendix, coming from the Rays, will be able to get some people he wants, not just people who will only take the worst available MLB job. Schumacher was all but gone after they cut loose Ng too I'd say.

The shame of it is that Miami could be a really good baseball market. One Mickey Mouse owner to another.

I've never been entirely convinced. Even when they won - which, granted, the owner always ruined - it never quite caught on. You've got huge chunks of the population that still roots for the team from wherever they grew up, and there's never really been a definitive way to capture the Cuban-American fans. And then you're either stuck playing indoors or in awful summer weather.

Granted, that goes double for Tampa, of the two teams Miami should be more viable. Tampa also has more competition from spring training, and even more college football.

The Marlins have won as many, two, WS as the Phillies did over the period the Marlins existed. They have always had low budgets and followed a pop-up strategy of building from farm and trade in order to be strong, not much more than once a decade.

Yeah but really Dombrowski built both of those World Series teams, even as he oversaw the first fire sale. That 2003 title still had his fingerprints on it. But by then he was gone and Henry had sold the team to buy the Sox and Loria was one of the worst owners possible. The surprise is that the current group hasn't been any better.

This is also the second time a winning manager of the year has bailed on them (though the first one didn't turn out to be that good, lol).
