In retrospect the three NL division races will look pretty boring. Phils were the last of the them to settle into 1st place for good (May 3rd). Dodgers went wire to wire, Brewers pretty much held the top spot since April 10th except for one day later in April when they fell back by a half game.

Tigers clinch a playoff spot. This is a fascinating team. They have one star pitcher (Skubal) and one star hitter (Greene) and that is kind of it. Their second best hitter is Vierling (2.9 WAR) and he has no set position. He played 143 games and started the most in CF (45) and 3B (41). The second best pitcher is Tyler Holton, a left-handed reliever with only 8 saves but also 94.1 IP in 66 games with a 2.19 ERA. Holton is kind of Ranger Suarez with even less velocity.

AJ Hinch is probably the best manager in baseball.

So the only reason the game 1 winner goes hard for a win in game 2 is spite against a division rival.

Fans of at least one of the two teams playing tomorrow said they should each forfeit one of the games and rest up for the playoffs,

But won't the seed also be in play? Not that a manager is going to burn his Game 1 WC pitcher tomorrow in the late game for that.

Eliminating your division foes is always nice. Eagles proved this a few years ago (although their method was a little less than clean). (They of course did it from outside the playoffs by “throwing” a game they were winning by bringing in the backups)

Steelers had a chance a couple years ago for both teams to make the playoffs with a tie. They kicked a FG with no time remaining in OT.

Sam Fuld listed as a candidate to work under him. I think the implication is that Posey will be less hands-on than Dombrowski but it would still be a lateral move (which also means Phillies don't have to grant permission for an interview if they don't want. Fuld did go to Stanford, but more of an East Coast guy otherwise).
