I suppose HIPPA has something to with it but, even so, all the "radio silence" on him and Sixto Sanchez makes me inclined to believe that we won't see either of them again until the FIL at the earliest. All we heard on Bohm was that he injured a nerve with that HBP. Hopefully, this is something that can clear up. I am assuming that the Phillies had hoped he would follow Haseley's 2017 path--brief "orientation" with GCL, a month-plus in WPT before closing out the final three weeks in LKW and then moving on to CLW to start 2019. Now, if healthy next spring, he'll probably need to do a half season in LKW before moving up to CLW.

He would most likely be fine going straight to Clearwater. There is actually not too much difference in quality between the NY-Penn and SAL leagues. In some ways the short season is more experienced with lots of college players while the SAL is heavier on prospects because they get all the young HS and international prospects.

Most college first round hitters are in High A to start their first full season and since Bohm is more talented than the average first round pick given his draft spot, it should not be a problem to start at Clearwater. Short season after the draft is mostly a bonus anyway.

Being cautious is great, but when being cautious ends up in having to sit a guy for several months, I’m really starting to get concerned they may have pulled another Gowdy where instead of fixing a problem this year they hoped for the best and then lose him to surgery next year when the soreness comes back.

Moniak continues to hit well at present. Haseley and Randolph have both leveled off a bit--not cratered but leveled off--over the last ten games.

Moniak is the key guy, Haseley is second. Randlolph was always a strange pick, once his defensive liabilities became apparent -- it will take a lot more than a month for me to see Randolph as a prospect. It's looking more and more like Moniak is resurrecting himself as a prospect and that Haseley has always been a prospect.

Moniak was a high school pick, not fully developed physically. It was always going to take time. Haseley, as a college player, is obviously farther advanced.

It's a lot harder to be patient with a first-round HS pick when the big club is in a down phase, and fans want so see improvement/help soon. It rarely works that way.

Moniak kind of got buried by "knowledgeable" fans (I'm assuming he's basically been off the radar of more casual "big club only" fans), but it's not clear to me that he's ever been written down, or seen as in need of "resurrection" by the club's development staff. And yes, I'm discounting the baseball "pundits" here, seeing them as "knowledgeable fans," not as professional development staff or evaluators. People who write for a living need to write things that people will read...need to be provocative sometimes. Writing "Moniak is scuffling now, but he's got time, the Phils knew it would take time." isn't going to hold eyeballs, generate page clicks, etc. So instead we get comparisons to Nick Senzel, who is three years older. If fans are impatient (and most are), Senzel looks like the better draft pick - but it's far too soon (as in, fifteen years too soon) to know, or rationally estimate, which player will have the better career. But of course saying that doesn't satisfy the impatient fan, who wants gratification now.

I agree with this. The "Moniak is young and in High A" excuse only goes so far when EVERY other HS hitter taken after him in the first round of 2016 is in High A or above and significantly outperforming him (Lowe, Kiriloff, Kieboom, Carlson, Lux).
