Phils system a cool 21 games over .500, a 35 game jump from those early season 14 games under, their low point of the season. I admit that following the minors has usually been my favorite Phillie pastime since so many times the major league club was almost unlovable and I was discouraged.

Several posters [PC for sure] talked about the bad weather affecting many of the players and perhaps they [he] were correct.I think a Top 30 prospects this summer would be quite interesting and provocative. Do Hernandez and Pujols inch in, I think so? How many of the recent draftees make it? Perhaps 3-4?

Things can change on a dime in baseball as we all know, but right now, today, its a good time to be a Phillie phan. Maybe the best time since 2011. The big guys are maddening in their up-down performances but are really one big bat and a solid closer from being as good as any club in the NL and the pharm system seems to have done the unlikely...promote 5-6 of their absolute top prospects and replenish on the fly without even a hiccup.

Good for the Phillies...and all of us!

Gotta include the second inning. This is why GCL records don't mean much--they're giving some pretty young kids exposure to pro ball before, in many cases, they're really ready.

I would count only the 4 full season teams + WMPT in my organizational record. They are +22 wins. The full season teams are +21, as CD noted.

Adding this today (from yesterday's thread) hoping to stimulate some discussion on our first-round picks:

Looking at our picks, and paying attention to the best guys taken within 4 picks following gives a good comparison: (Fangraphs rank in parentheses)

Randolph's year:
Tyler Stephenson--good hitting catcher in A+ now, 120-ish OPS+
Josh Naylor--up and down 1b/OF is playing well in AA right now. 115-ish OPS+, 140 now.
Garrett Whitley--120-ish OPS+ OF in A ball
Koby Allard (hon mention)--3.00-ish ERA pitcher now in AAA, a top prospect.

This was a pretty awful swing and miss by the Phils.

Moniak's year:
Nick Senzel (7)--good hitting 3B in AAA--top prospect, now injured
Ian Anderson (45)--3.20 ish ERA pitcher in A+ ball, a good prospect
Riley Pint--pitcher struggling in A-ball, now injured
Corey Ray--average OF now in AA, not a top prospect

Moniak is arguably better than Pint and Ray, much worse than Senzel and Anderson

Finally Haseley's year:
Keston Hiura (24)--top-flight 150 OPS+ second base prospect-in AA
Jo Adell (66)--top prospect, previously discussed, in high-A
Jake Burger--solid 3B prospect in low-A for the White Sox
Shane Baz--ineffective pitcher still in rookie ball

Haseley is better than Burger and Baz, much worse than Hiura and Adell. Adell looks like a top-10 prospect at this point, and Hiura could be close except for the 2B positional discount.

The Braves have picked close to us a couple of times and have done very well. I think we need to re-evaluate our first-round approach. We do much better in the following rounds.

It's upsetting that Senzel, Anderson, Hiura, Adell, and Allard are all in the top 130 or so, with 4 of them in the top 100. TBF, Haseley is in some top 100 lists as well.

Holmes is 19, playing a new position, and they probably just want him to play every day rather than sharing a position.

Nothing wrong with that. Having 2 GCL teams probably means the teams will be a bit older than in the past as there is less push to get players to Williamsport or Lakewood. Slotting someone in for regular playing time (who is still age appropriate obviously) is always a good thing.

No the Phillies had no chance to sign Cameron - he had pre draft deal with the Astros for $4.0 million, a bonus amount higher than the Phillies draft slot. But you can keep trying to use that hindsight to find as much fault as you can with the Phillies draft picks.

Rodolpho Duran hit HR #10 tonight, and he has an ISO of .250 in the most difficult park to hit in in the minor leagues. Hasn't walked a lot, and will have to take a few more walks or up his BA to be a positive overall contributor as he moves up. But, heh, .250 ISO is outstanding.

Muzziotti was clearly saving his hits up while he was in GCL. 4/5 tonight.

That Cameron comment was semi tongue in cheek. I don't find much fault with the selections of any of our recent # 1s other than Randolph.
