PS--A question occurred to me...if our LA scouting is so good, how come our DSL teams are so bad? I'm asking honestly, and I know there might be a few reasons--are we playing more young players than other teams? Is splitting into 2 affiliates hurting both teams? Are we sacrificing wins for development? Andy? Squire? (two guys I know who follow DSL at least a little bit) Others?

Remind me again how much money we spent in the last period and how it compared to other organizations?

We got up to about $7 million I believe. Probably ranks 3rd or 4th this season. The Yankees maxed out to over $8 million. I think a couple of other teams did too.

When I say middle of the pack among the teams that are serious about international spending we need to remember the 11 teams under penalty the last couple of years that got there by spending $10, $20, and sometimes $50 million plus. We have never had that coffer-filling type year that the Yankees, Braves, Red Sox, Padres, Rangers, Cubs, and others have had. So being in the top 5 is good last year but we still need to compare ourselves against a dozen other organizations that have spent much more in the past 5 years (where those 16-year-olds are just hitting the majors).

This year it would be good to get up to $6 million or so in spending with allocation trades. Last time there are teams in the penalty with cheap allocations to trade. We have an advantage over some smaller market teams that want to be serious in Latin American, but also might want to limit their budget to $3 or $4 million. We need to use that.

1) We signed a TON of guys last year which caused us to purge our older DSL guys off the roster and thus have a legitimately young roster;

2) While stripping away a greater than usual amount of the better players because we have an extra GCL team to supply this year.

Honestly, I am not crazy about them sending Bohn to GCL unless, as some have suggested, it's for tax benefits with him establishing Florida residency. If that is the case, would starting him at CLW be too much of a jump? Just send him to WPT!

Bohm will likely be the same unless he does better at Williamsport than Haseley did and then could go to Lakewood faster.
