Victor Santos got a $150K bonus out of the Dominican. Mid-range signing, but clearly enough that they valued him. Signed in the 2016-2017 signing window, where we spread some money around.

SF..actually if memory serves me and without looking it up, I seem to recall we thought the Phils did great with their 11,12 and 13th round draft picks in 2017...Holmes, Fitch and Parkinson. All three were thought of as great value picks and were highly thought of.

All three are doing well in the system, and Holmes in particular seems a very promising pick. Parkinson also looks good and will go as far as his success or lack of takes him. He was considered a very good pick by most of the draftniks on this board.

Yeah...Parkinson to me has always been somewhat of a prospect. He was higher ranked than Connor Seabold when the Phillies drafted him. He didn't pitch a lot of innings last year because he was a college pitcher who had just gone through a season. He's putting up video game numbers at Lakewood. I wish they would promote him to Clearwater. Kinda surprised that they promoted Andrew Brown instead of him but it was definitely close

3 catchers hitting the ball enough that you need to put them all in the lineup somewhere. It is refreshing that the better prospects (tool-wise) are also the ones playing well.

Pitching is a bit different in that aspect as some of the younger starters who are the better prospects are experiencing typical GCL growing pains. Santos and Pipkin are a bit the exception. Victor Vargas and Gabriel Cotto are probably among the best 5 pitching prospects we have at GCL. Santos is probably up with them but most others stuff-wise are a step behind (guys like Miller, Brown, and Glogoski).

Vargas and Cotto are two of the young guys who have high ERAs because one or two bad outings.

Do they bring Brown and Rosso back to Lakewood for the playoffs?

I have asked this question before, and it was asked by several people on Phuture Phillies but still no answer so I will ask it again...is this simply a very good hitting year GCL wide or are the Phillies simply having exceptional summers? The numbers are quite impressive and no longer SSS. What gives?

Either the pitching in the GCL is poor this season or so many of the Phils young prospects are hitting incredibly well...just study PC's list and it doesn't even include 4-5 other guys who are hitting well.

CD, the hitting is up league-wide in the GCL this season. Doesn't mean our guys aren't good, though. We are first and third in BA, second and tied for third in OPS.

Offense is clearly up over the past few years in GCL. Runs per game average for the league by year:

2015 - 4.00
2016 - 4.12
2017 - 4.51
2018 - 4.89

It is enough of a trend where I wonder if the difference is they now use the same magic baseballs that are in the big leagues. In 2017 I think they improved the manufacturing quality of baseballs in the majors that made them consistently carry further on average (perhaps by eliminating mediocre baseballs). The handful of additional teams probably means the pitching is watered down a bit. The professionalization of DSL teams may be producing hitters that are "more ready" on average, but a 20% offensive increase is usually something in the equipment since the parks are not changing.

That was a really good start by Victor Santos. Our GCL starters just don't seem to be asked to pitch 6 innings, but he did. An 11/0 ratio of K/BB is really impressive. He's not our typical skinny LA GCL pitcher -- already listed as 191# at 6'-1", so probably not much physical projection. He has been averaging better than 5 IP per start and even prior to today's game had a little better than 10K per walk. I'm impressed. Also impressed by the increase in K rate from last season in DSL. He is just barely 18, so he seems a prospect.

Pigs come all the way back. Walding 3/4 with 2 HR. Waguespack shut the Clippers down for the 5 subsequent innings. Great win. Final 8-5. Milner with a 4-batter save.

Oh...and Cowgill was 4/4. Pigs 2 and 3 hitters were 7/8!
