I've looked for a video of Stott's bombs, but I can't find one...usually AA games have some sort of video set-up, so I'm surprised I haven't found one.

The fact that neither MLB.com nor BA currently list Bryson Stott as a Top 100 prospect irks me to no end.

Going opposite field, though it looks like the summer ball carry is clearly back in Reading. Maybe Stott and Ortiz later in the year can give us a sequel to the Hoskins and Cozens summer.

First one was a 400-foot shot to almost dead center, the second one was a line-drive that barely cleared the wall in LF, his opposite field. He added a double later, a line drive to RF. Nice to see him using the whole ballpark.

Good to see Stott hitting, he was walking a lot, but that's icing on the cake, now he's baking the cake.

Actually, the top of the farm system is looking pretty strong:
Haseley, Kingery, Maton, Moniak, Williams, Randolph, Marchan, Stott, Vierling,
We'll see how they progress this year, but they're finally getting that full minor league season that many have needed.

That is certainly the glass half-full perspective. Half-empty is that there's still not anyone you'd pencil in as an above-average future major league starter - or a starter at all - among any of those first six names

I would at least say Stott has the potential to be an above average major league starter. Everyone else on that list is more likely a reserve or below average starter unfortunately.

A Stott with 15 HR power and a .350 OBP from the walks and good 2B defense might be pretty valuable. Even if his SS defense is average at best, a 270/350/450 shortstop is again pretty valuable.

Which is why I said the first six names, Stott was the eighth. Giving Marchan the benefit of the doubt, because even back-up catcher is a good outcome.

I'd put Marchan more in the backup/below average starter path. Jeff Mathis started for a lot of his years, he just did not hit enough to ever be considered above average. Vierling at age 24 is old for Reading (obviously lots of players are a little older this season because of the missed time last year, but still he is at Reading. What Luke Williams did for LHV this year was more impressive and we consider him more of a backup).

We really have to reach down into A ball to find more players who MIGHT have a somewhat decent chance of being above average regulars. I'd put O'Hoppe on that list over Marchan because his double jump this year has been impressive. I probably want to see more from Ortiz since he really needs to be great offensively to be above average anywhere.

Then at Low A you probably list Rojas, Martin, and Garcia with a shot to be above average with huge risk factors on all of them.

I still think Adam Haseley could be a 15HR/750-775 OPS guy with above average defense in a corner. That is just not above average though.

775 OPS would rank 7th of all RFers this year that have played 20 or more games.

But where would it rank out of all RFers? This is where the small sample stats can get cherry-picked. The point here is that Haseley is unlikely to sustain such a performance over a number of years. And coupled with only average defense you do not get an above average regular. That is also probably in the top 20 percent of Haseley's projection. He is much more likely to be more like a 725 OPS outfielder over time. And that is below average. ESPN has 49 OFs qualified for the batting title at the moment and 24 of them have an OPS of 775 or more. Some of those are poor defensive fielders, so I'd probably say there are 20 above average outfielders in all of baseball that qualify.

I am not sure Haseley could do that, but if he could sustain a 775 OPS over 500 at bats with at least average defense I would consider him above average. Of course the Phillies think his defense in CF is below average and his arm is not really good enough for RF, so his path with the Phillies is more in LF where the bar might be higher.

Rankings where you artificially give someone a higher ranking just because injuries take out much of the competition are kind of useless rankings. It is kind of playing with data to create an artificial ranking (7th!!!!) that implies something that is not really true.

There are only 2 names that my 20 games threshold kept out. Josh Reddick and Brett Phillips. And Phillips has played more CF than RF.

Right now 775 is above players like Betts, Yaz, Renfroe, Polanco, Myers, Haniger, Margo and Conforto.

My point WASNT to artificially rank Haseley higher. I think Haseley is a bust. My point was to point out that I thought 750-775 was too high of an expectation for him. Saying that putting him in that bracket would put him in the top tier of RFers. So all you did was help prove my point.

But where we both lose context is.. 750-775 in which context? with the 2021 ball? the 2019-2020 ball? When pitchers are using sticky stuff.. After pitchers are no longer using sticky stuff.

MLB keeps changing so much that its hard to evaluate what should be expected of a hitter. Whats average, above average, etc.

That is not my expectation either. But it is the range where he probably has a reasonable chance to get there. When we look at prospects, most of them fail. But what is a reasonable high end projection if they don't? This is the top 10%-20% of their performance, not the median level of their performance. And I would say he does have a 15% chance of being an outfielder who regularly puts up a 750-775 OPS. Not a 50% chance. And even if he does that, it is not really above average (because your 7th place ranking is kind of meaningless.

We are basically saying the same thing. I just think that 7th place comment implied that there is nobody capable these days of a 775 OPS and I think that is just flat out wrong and I think your list is filtered incorrectly. For 20+ games in right field I actually see 12 players at 775+ (Castellanos, Acuna, Judge, Harper, Soto, T. Hernandez, Betts, Haniger, A. Garcia, Tucker, Blackmon, Yaz). You are missing most of the top of the list.

To be fair, you threw down a relatively general statement on what you thought Haseley could be (15HR/750-775 OPS, above average defense), and labeled it not above average. There was no context. When it was shown that a 775 OPS would currently rank 7th among RFs you began moving the target, adding qualifiers and context.

You can't really get upset when someone provides a vanilla response to a vanilla statement. Well, you can, but...

No worries. But the 7th place comment did kind of miss Castellanos, Acuna, Judge, Harper, Soto, and Teoscar Hernandez in your RF rankings. The top 6.....

I should have stressed this as more of a high end projection. Haseley DOES still have a chance to be above average. We should all forget what happened in the limited time this year because his head was messed up. He is still what he was in 2019. A tweener defensively who looks like he could hit for a decent average but without a whole lot of power. 2020 diminished expectations. But the player from 2019 still exists and there is a chance since he is young that he could improve. Just not a big chance, and the fundamental flaw of him being that defensive tweener will probably not go away.

I'd withhold judgement until the end of the season, it's been such a weird two years that I expect players to make big jumps (or not) once they have a couple hundred PAs or 40-50 IP under their belts and have a chance to find a groove (and absorb instruction).

I mean what is "normal progression" given the circumstances?
