Looking ahead to the 2018 draft

When you are talking about the 3rd overall pick, I think you go best available player. Whatever you have in your system right now, this player SHOULD be better (well, since we have had the 1st pick a few years ago, that is a conflict with that statement). These are the guys you hope will take you to the promised land, these are the future stars of the game (you hope). You don't look for a position just because it is not as strong as others, you do that later, with the very top picks you look for that player that leads your team.

Honestly, we are more loaded with (supposedly top pick) players in the OF. While we have middle infielders, anyone we get with this pick should be better than all of them in the long run.

I'm more confident that any of the Pitchers that we would pick at #3 would one of our Top 5 pitching prospects than I am of Nick Madrigal ending up better than all of Crawford, Kingery, Gamboa, Luis Garcia, etc. It just seems like an odd pick to me. Madrigal has played all of 6 games (all non-conference) and is hurt. If you wanted a college hitter, I'd offer Bohm like 2-2.5 million below slot and try to float the money all the way to the 4th round. But if the draft went Mize-Liberatore, I'd take McClanahan or Hankins or Gorman or maybe even Singer before Madrigal. Just my take.

The Madrigal pick doesn't make sense for the Phillies. I know they've scouted him but I don't think it's possible to make close connections between teams and players just yet as we're still about two months out from the draft.

For what its worth, in his chat today Kiley McDaniel said that while he doesn't see them as 1.1 both Nick Madrigal and Alec Bohm are in play "right after that" So who knows. Threw a little cold water on Liberatore.

Bohm is having a really good season so far....8 k's and 21 walks with power and average.

Kris Bryant-like body that's for sure. Looks like he needs to clean up his throwing motion, but that's no biggie.

Bohm actually makes sense for the Phillies, if you figure he's 2-3 years away, Franco gets a full shot, Kingery can fill in when needed, and if Franco falls short or you don't trust him enough to offer big money, Bohm is there as the replacement.

Power, plate discipline is a combo they love, the question is whether he has the tools to be at least average on the field.

I mean I think the fact he's one of the best hitters if not the best hitter in the draft at a premium position would be my number one. IF the Phillies are considering him and using your logic I want them all fired.

Mediocre to poor start last night for McClanahan against Houston 6.2, 5H, 5ER, 5BB, 8K but got the win. Mize was 7IP, 7H, 2ER, 1B, 7K against a good Arkansas team last night but took the loss 2-1. Florida was off last night so Singer should go today. Looking for any Ethan Hankins updates. Bohm was 1-4 with a 2RBI double and a run scored in a blowout loss for Wichita State

I watched Bohm’s ab’s. He seemed to see the ball well, was selective, and was hitting the ball the opposite way. The double to right should have been caught but the ball seemed like it had a good jump off his bat and carried well despite not appearing to have been hit squarely.

Moving forward I wonder who ends up the top 3B prospect on the board...Bohm or Gorman.

BPA, but the tie breaker should be need.
That is, you don't reach for need, but when two players have similar rankings, you pick need.

Now, with HS players, throw need out the window, b/c by the time they arrive, everything can change.
But a top college player should arrive in 2-3 years.

Mize with another dominant start and complete game.
Singer outstanding.
McClanahan wild and bad in a short outing and loss.
