Well, a 'good SS' bat, like a 'good C bat' is a lousy corner OF, 1B bat and a meh 3B bat. There are phenomenal SS and CF bats who come along, but they are rare. For example, I still like Crawford as our 1st round pick and Moniak as a safe 1.1, but really they both would be awful picks if they had to move to 1B or corner OF. A ton of their value is wrapped up in their D. Their bats should be fine for their position, but they don't transition. I mentioned CF and 2B in my post, because that's where most SS (apart from the iffy glove, phenomenal bat guys} move. At 2B we have Hernandez, Valentin, Kingery, Brito and lesser lights. At CF we have Odubel, Quinn, Altherr, Tocci, Moniak and lesser lights. We still lack a #1 and arguably a #2 SP, so we have a need for upgrading there and half the draft candidates are pitchers. Franco has yet to really put it all together and there is little behind him on the farm, so a top 3B candidate would be a good pick. Teams are always seeking catchers, so if we can draft a top catcher that is both good insurance and a good asset to have. We seem to do best scouting middle IF and mid-rotation SPs and relievers in LA in recent years..
