Moniak's father posted in the Phuture Phillies comments10 (8.30pm) that Mickey told him it's a minor hamstring injury that he's been carrying for a couple of games.
He won't cost that much. He will cost, but probably less than Realmuto. My guess is Klentak is more interested in controllable pitching and also Bumgarner won't be traded for two weeks or more. If you did want him tomorrow you would have to give up more. As inconsistent as the rotation has been it is not like getting him early would guarantee two more wins this month.
Seems like a real indication of how unexpectedly slow the pre All-Star break market is that this thread hasn't taken off yet.
My prediction though: the Phillies will make a big trade, the swoon just means they will have to pay the freight for someone controllable vs. the freight for a big-name FA to-be. What will it take to get Matthew Boyd (supposedly way too much at the moment) vs. Bumgarner? Will Minor be available?
I think the guys the Phils are most likely to be willing to move at the deadline are as follows:
Pitchers--Medina, De Los Santos
Hitters--Williams, Haseley, Moniak
I'd put Bohm and probably Howard in the "untouchable" category, and in the "almost untouchable" category would be Morales and Luis Garcia. Also Stott won't be traded now.
One from the pitchers list, one from the hitters list, and possibly a third lottery ticket I think will constitute the Phils' trade deadline offer for an arm.
We'll see how close (or not close) I get to reality!
If we're talking a controllable, quality starter, I've got no problem with that. For a rental I think only one name from that list, plus a couple of lower level guys. Given the Arrieta situation I think they could also trade a couple of AAA arms for someone's expensive 4th starter.
Would rather not trade Haseley or Moniak until CF shakes out but if you're sure it's Haseley, okay.
I wonder if there is a team who would dare to take Herrera. Like, what if you were trying to get Greinke. You take more money off Arizona's hand than you otherwise would if they take Odubel (even if Phillies kick in cash there).
Looking to 2020 the Phillies outfield is: Harper
After that it is McCutchen - ? can he come back and be an everyday player?
Hererra - ? can he be the offensive player he once was, will he be given another shot?
Cozens, Williams, Listi and Haseley will all be competing in Spring Training, but most likely for a 4th outfielder slot.
The bench competition will be: Walding (1b-3b), Franco (1b-3b), Knapp (CA-1b), Grullon (CA)
How much longer will the team stay in love with Gamboa?
I think the available "prospects/suspects" is pretty limited as far as being attractive to other clubs: Gamboa, Cozens, Williams, Listi, Walding, Rios, Moniak, Romero, Randolph, Grullon then there are DLS, Velasquez, Pivetta, Irvin
Bruce is under contract for low dollars and I assume they want him back, especially if they don't know if Cutch is 100% at the beginning of the year. It is a low dollar deal of course, so easy to move on if they have something better.
As for prospects, I think everything is likely on the table. Certainly one of Moniak and Haseley. Bohm only if we get something great and controllable, but he is likely safe since replacing Franco next year could be a priority. Any pitcher could be dealt. Teams will want Howard and Medina. All the 2nd tier guys at LHV are available. Other teams will also want Francisco Morales who has been really good the last few months. He could have more value than Medina these days.
With the present state of pitching in the game, is there any confidence that the pitcher(s) that the Phillies could obtain in trade would perform better enough than what they presently have that would justify giving up Hasely, Moniak level talent? A better solution, especially with the weak performance of the pitchers almost across the board, would be to get a different PC. Having a guy who is strong in analytics is nice but results on the mound matter as well. Letting go of Kranitz might not have been the best decision.
