Another ugly loss, more calls for Manuel's job. Back to a game under .500, on to Atlanta. Ryan Howard is coming off the DL, we were hoping Barajas might go, but they optioned Chris Coste down. And Brett Myers heads to the DL, getting replaced by 24 year old lefty Mike Zagurski.

Phils, with help from the return of Ryan Howard and the debut of Mike Zagurski, opened the series in Atlanta with a nice win. Back at .500 again, but it's Adam Eaton Time again, afternoon baseball on FOX.

After yesterday's win, we're over .500 for the first time all season. One crazy optimist in yesterday's game thread even thought the 2007 Phillies had a shot at the division and not just the wild card, because 6 games out in late May is not insurmountable. INSANE. Anyway, it's Cole Hamels and the Phils looking for a sweep in Atlanta.

Guys like Dobbs, Nunez, Bourn and Victorino have been helping the Phils over the last coupla weeks get above .500, but it's nice to see Ryan Howard back and hitting. Back home for a series with Arizona, who are on a roll themselves, just a game out of first in the NL West.

Well, Dobbs made it interesting last night, but once we got to Rod Barajas as the last hope all was lost. Dobbs is hitting .362 with an 1.058 OPS in May so far. If the Phils lose tonight, it's back to .500.

Off day for the disappointing Phils, 3-10 in one run games so far, one game under .500, mired in 3rd place, 8 and a half games back of the dynasty-in-progress New York Mets. Planning an overseas trip for early October because there's not much hope of postseason play for us this year.

SF and Barry Bonds come to town. Bonds is 9 homers away from tying Hank Aaron's career total. He gets to face Adam Eaton, who he's only homered off 7 times in 25 ABs. Both teams a game under .500.

Ugly 13-0 loss to the Giants last night. Bonds didn't even homer, though some guy named Pedro Feliz did.

Phils are right back to being two games under .500, which seems to happen every other day so far in the 2007 season*.

Someone in the thread last night suggested letting the Phils know we've given up on them again so they'll go on a winning streak again. Maybe a Cole Hamels start will help. They're putting Werth back in the lineup to try to get the team going again.

As someone posted in the thread last night, it would be a fine thing if Vic hit a GW homer on "Hulu Day" and he did.

Fun win, big homer by Ryan Howard too. Back at .500, and a chance to take 3 of 4 against Bonds and the Giants today. They'll face Barry Zito, in the first year of his big 7 year contract. But some of us are already looking ahead to the next team due in.

Well, Zito looked like he was worth every penny of his contract. Phils let some bum named Kevin Frandsen knock in 2 runs yesterday in an ugly 8-1 loss, back under .500 yet again.

Now we head to NY to play the Mets who are 8 games in front of our so-called 'team to beat'. People are hoping to win at least 2 to stay somewhat alive in the race for the division, though plenty have already given up on that dream and are talking wild card at best. Over at Metsblog, they're looking at the BP playoff adds and rubbing their hands together:

According to (Baseball Prospectus) the Mets have a 93.4% chance of making the

playoffs, which is only second to the Red Sox, who have a 96.5% chance.

Davenport also notes the Braves have a 37.3% chance and the Phillies have a 9.6% chance.

Great win in extras for the Phils last night, Chase Is The Man. Anyway, back at it for another chance to chip away at the Mets' big lead, give them their first 3 game losing streak of the season, and get the Phils back over .500.

Well, we were hoping for 2 out of 3 in NY, now greedily looking for a sweep to get us to within 5 games of the first place Mets, which would be as close as we've been since early May. Nice to hear all the boos in NY for their first place team.

In the draft we took Joe Savery and Travis d'Arnaud with our first two picks.

Cole Hamels, who leads the league in wins, going for the Phils tonight. Mets haven't been swept yet this year.

Well well well, the Phils sweep the Mets at Shea in the famous "TAKE THAT RAT" game against Billy Wagner, who ended up talking about Burrell's 'one path swing'.

Wagner had held Burrell hitless with two strikeouts in five at-bats since leaving the Phillies for the Mets in 2006 before Burrell's game-tying homer Thursday handed Wagner his first blown save in 31 chances. Wagner's response: "He has a one-path swing and I just put it right in his path," Wagner said.

Burrell's rebuttal: "He can call it what he wants. I'm not going to play that game with him."

And we had a little Hamels vs LoDuca controversy.

I can't imagine a more satisfying win or series against those guys any time soon. Take it away, Metsblog...

...what's so disturbing about this series is not necessarily the losing, it's the way it all went down...i mean, i feel like the Mets and Phillies swapped uniforms, in that the Phillies were the team playing crisp defense, coming from behind, getting clutch hits, playing with intensity, and winning...while the Mets looked lackluster, had a shaky bullpen, stranded runners and kept losing...so, as much as it pains me to say it, nice job Philadelphia...

...don't get me wrong, i'm not worried for the long haul, necessarily, it's just today, right now, i feel a bit awkward and disoriented, which may not be the worst thing in the world...a little gut check could end up being a good thing...i hope...

We even had a whole thread devoted to the cover of the Daily News.

Anyway, it's on to Kansas City for some interleague action. Our first trip there since some games in October of 1980.

The next game is the last we ever hear from Freddie Garcia as a Phillie. Ironically, Garcia was Gillick's headline acquisition the previous offseason.

In other news, Gillick also brought back fan not exactly favorite, Jose Mesa.

Guess that was a letdown. Didn't help that Freddy Garcia struggled and seems to be injured. 1-5 with an ERA of 5.90 in 11 starts. Wonder if he'll even pitch again this season? (Spoiler alert: see previous post for the answer)

Phils look to get even in the series in KC. And, as Philsmania wrote, we've resigned Jose Mesa for some reason.

Interesting to be reminded of Greg Dobbs. I didn't realize he'd played as recently as 2014. He had his 2 best seasons with the Phils.
