It is funny to me that the Hank Aaron award is the best offensive player in a league. Not that I am against any award with one of my sports heroes associated with it, but that isnt the right category for him.
He may not have ever been the best offensive player in a league. OK, maybe a couple seasons, but really that isnt what is remarkable about him.
The Hank Aaron award should be for the best player over the last 5 years. He wasnt acutely great, he was chronically great (you know what I mean ). He was ultra-steady. He played year after year and was one of the best players around, you could absolutely count on him, but he wasnt going to have that crazy great year, just another very, very good one.
Additionally, it should be awarded to the guy that EVERY parent in the country hopes his kid becomes. The best person in the game. The one that will overcome anything that the media or ignorant people will throw at him and still hold his head up high and do the best he can. And not make the news for stupidity, but for class.
That should be the Hank Aaron award, that said, I will take this one as the namesake also, but I just think it is a little off of what the guy brought to the table.
