I really recommend watching these games with the Fangraphs win probability open, especially if you have high blood pressure.
When Workman entered: 96.6 %
With one out 98.5%
With one out and a man on first (walk) 96.2%
With one out and a man on first and second (single) 91.5%
With two outs and a man on first and second 96.6%
Game over.
Didn't like the walk in front of Freeman and don't ever like bringing the tying run to the plate, but it was only truly nerve-wracking if you've trained yourself to expect the worst (which I get!). And getting out the guys he did (three >.900 OPS hitters) was ultimately impressive. His stuff looked pretty nasty with Acuna.
I think they'll add another arm tomorrow. But the bullpen is pretty deep, and our 7 worst guys ERA-wise are long gone. At this point the key is just health and the top four or five guys actually pitching to their potential, which is just likely (and a lot more affordable) as rollling the dice or more new guys (barring a truly elite acquisition, and I'm not sure there are any available).
Harper said they needed to win 9 out of 10, they now have 5 in a row after losing 5 in a row.
