The issue is whether it bothered Hoskins, either consciously or subconsciously. In the abstract, I understand why Hoskins could be an effective leadoff hitter. But he wasn't.
More generally, my comment had to do with Kapler's unwillingness, or inability, to allow pretty much anybody to get comfortable in a role. Sometimes people need predictability.
If Dickerson is an effective short-term replacement for McCutchen, my response would be to restore the rest of the lineup to as close to what it as in April as practicable.; e.g., Dickerson-Segura-Harper-Hoskins-Realmuto-Kingery-Hernandez-Haseley (swapping Kingery at 3B up from 8 to 6, swapping Haseley in CF from 6 to 8). Then your bench is Knapp, Morrison, Miller, Rodriguez (unless we can find an actual reserve OF who can hit, and get rid of one of Miller or Rodriguez). I've deprecated Maikel Franco, because it seems that the Phillies have done that - but if it were up to me, I'd rather have his bat on the bench than keep both Miller and Rodriguez.
