I don't know why Hoskins' leading off bother everyone so much beyond their traditional notion of what a lead-off hitter looks like. He leads the team in OBP, he was in a slump, we criticize Kap for spreadsheet management but this was a rare case where he went with his gut. He was still getting on base through the slump, the offense came alive during the period Harper and Hoskins led off, and Rhys was showing signs of coming out of it these past few nights. Now Gabe puts him back and here we are!
To me Kapler's lack of consistency has mostly been due to the lack of a consistent line-up (or consistent production). I'm sure he would have liked nothing more than to just replace Cutch with Hernandez and be done with it, but that didn't work out, and neither did the other options. He also would have been happy to just hit Jay Bruce 5th every day but oops, can't do that either! At one point it looked like Maikel Franco would hit 8th forever (and people argued that was too low) and where is he now?
Sticking with Dickerson at lead-off seems like the way to go but I think the rest of it is still kind of fluid.
