Well, the difference is Suarez and Eflin were both on the IL so our two 6s were actually 4 and 5, and got more exposed. The fact that Falter couldn't pitch in Toronto and they had to have a bullpen game didn't help anything either. And now since Eflin can't come back it's clearly not acceptable for either Sanchez or Falter to replace him long-term. The question is whether they will get someone who might be the #3 starter or just someone good enough to join Gibson and Suarez as "the other three starters, with each of them taking turns as the best or worst of them.
Of course 2021 Suarez was very much a #3 or even an ace. And Gibson is probably still a #4 for the most part..
