A Bumgarner deal is exactly the kind of thing you throw Didi (or Kingery?) into without any additional cost to the Phillies, it just becomes part of the $ piece Arizona puts into the deal and allows the Phillies to pick up salary for other things (possibly even another IF to replace Didi if they want to try and do better than Camaro/Munoz off the bench. Or a CF. Or a reliever).
Nobody seriously thought this was a division title team on Day 1, with or without the luxury tax. It has actually met expectations and may be significantly better than it looks if you rate the managerial change as a huge factor (i.e. throw out the Girardi results) and the returning players as big positives (especially considering they have kept their head above water despite four major injuries). All teams see how things go in the first half and then add/fix, it's just a matter of degree.
