Nice job by Alvarado to work around the leadoff double.
Managers don't seem to like using a catcher at DH. I assume it's because they lose the DH if the guy catching gets hurt and they have to move the DH to catcher. Bac in the old days, there used to be a third guy on the roster who could catch, but teams don't do that anymore with so many relievers on the roster (plus there was no DH then).

Looks like he was safe on replay but not enough to overturn
Run scores but not because of Hoskins.
Castellanos gets his fourth hit of the game but out trying for a double.
Taking a replay look. Confirms out ending inning. I thought he might have evaded the tag but the call of out was upheld on replay.
Should be noted that the call stands but was not confirmed

What a win. Excellent job by the bullpen.
Tremendous job by the bullpen today. 6.1 innings, one hit, no runs, no walks.
Road trip ends 7-4. Disappointing 0-2 in Texas, but series wins in Washington and San Diego.
Big home run from Schwarber to come from behind and take the lead. Great win.
Nice road trip. Now we face the real challenge. Atlanta.
Marchan is only just starting to play and I believe Sands is hurt but without Harper the Phillies could do worse than to carry three catchers instead of Moniak. Presumably all three catchers would also be no worse in the OF (in limited action) than Schwarber or Castellanos and JT and Stubbs could both DH.
I imagine Stubbs turns into a pumpkin if he plays too much though. As Knapp did after 2020.
I gotta say, that while you never know what might happen, and it's a nice day of service time for Moniak, we've seen this team play enough games without a full roster of position players - including in the non-DH era - that it's amazing to me that they flew Moniak into San Diego first thing this morning for one game. He probably would have been better off getting one more start in AAA, enjoying tomorrow's off-day, and showing up on Tuesday. And of course not one bench player got in the game today.
This mentions moving down Schwarber too, but man, who would lead off? I would probably try JT. Everyone else besides Rhys is sub-.300 OBP, and JT used to be better in that department (as did Rhys).
The Athletic story (posted in the general thread) says they wanted Moniak to start yesterday, but then realized the odds of his plane being delayed were too high. He got there an hour before game time but they weren't gonna change the line-up at that point. Good thing Vierling played!
