How much playing time Vierling gets will be interesting. He seems to be back to the offense he was showing last year. Maybe expectations at the beginning of the year got to him.
But he is a solid defender (not sure Moniak gets that ball he caught coming in) and he runs well to the point that maybe he should be playing close to 100% of the time until he shows he can't hit better than Moniak or Herrera. Herrera is ice cold and Moniak of course has not shown he could hit major league pitching even if his recent stretch in AAA was pretty positive.
I think I start Herrera and Moniak against most right-handed pitching but let Vierling play 1/3 of the time for one of them. And if either Herrera or Moniak is not hitting in a week then Vierling plays more. I also think they should be aggressive putting the extra catcher at DH in lineups. The chance of a catcher injury is like 2% every time they do this, and since they are carrying an extra position player they can pinch hit for the pitcher if they have to. The second catcher at DH should NOT be an impediment to putting a better lineup out there.
