Kintzler was on a minor league deal and only made $3 million in the majors. Knebel and Familia are a long, long way away from leaving the roster (unless it's on the IL). I would instead compare them to Matt Moore and Chase Anderson, who were both still around until the end of August (and Moore all season I believe).
Of course there could be an IL stint for Knebel even if he's merely "sore," since he can't be optioned. But you don't give up on him yet. If Familia actually does end up looking better, all the more proof of that, because he's a guy I wouldn't have even signed in the first place.
Bottom line the Phillies need 1-2 relief arms in addition to what they have, not instead of. Hopefully one of them is internal. But I reckon Dombrowski is going to buy hard at the trade deadline. If there's an opportunity to match $ there's also Kingery. I would have said Didi too but now they probably can't.
