Pads just lost Machado for several weeks to an ankle injury
That certainly couldn't hurt but we just won two of three without Bryce Harper (well, with one very key PH) and have been missing Segura for weeks. It's always about more than one player. And still harder to win on the road against a good team (or a bad team, or just out West despite the most recent successful trip).
Thanks for putting the challenges on the road in perspective there, Z.
LAD losing Betts for several weeks with a rib injury
We lost two to Texas at CBP early last month, though one could argue that was the point when the Joe Girardi Era was really beginning to go sideways, nowithstanding them winning five of the first six at Seattle and LAD.
We don't play the Dodgers again though.
But seriously, .500 on the road is still the standard (one this team in this era has never met before - I believe the Nats series put them over). I think the Padres are being kind of forgotten this year because they're still not in first place and because of last year. Regardless the Phillies have to play above their heads with the hole they dug. And they can't really drop one to Texas. 4-2 would be a great result.
The Padres were in first place a couple of days ago. They're only a half game behind the Dodgers now. All this without Tatis.
Yeah, the perception is it's the Mets and Dodgers and everyone else, so the question is do the Padres belong up there. Mathematically, yes. We played them well enough at home (but still lost the series, and obviously that was a different time).
Would not be surprised to see Manny Machado go on the IL. He slipped on the first base bag and twisted his ankle pretty badly. My understanding is that CJ Abrams was pulled out of his minor league game as a precaution, presuming he might be taking Machado's spot on the roster.
It sounds like the injury is not serious but I would think he also goes on the IL. Unless they would rather be short for 4-6 days in the hopes that he can play by then.
Oh, I agree. I was just having fun with you.
