I don't dislike Bohm. I like him, in fact. I also really liked Mickey Morandini, who was an ordinary or even below-average player. I also actually dislike Nick Castellanos while knowing he used to be a better player than Bohm has ever been. It just doesn't bother me that Nick is overpaid because that's not his fault, or even Dombrowski's to some extent because it's just the system. Bohm should also be paid more!
I still hope Bohm is an above average player and his flair for RISP and RBIs (which require great players on ahead of him, but that's what he gets!) does seem like something that is semi-sustainable, which mitigates the other flaws in his offensive game. But this season has in fact been mostly BABIP luck, with any improvements/adjustments Bohm did make in April with walks and power now completely gone. If he gets out of this slump - last night was certainly a start - and adjusts back and can hang around .800 OPS he's obviously fine, and I'll be cheering for him in the All-Star Game (luckily all the 3B in the NL kind of stink this year which is also something to consider). But as the Phillies hit the toughest part of their schedule it also wouldn't surprise me if Bohm is back to a .750 OPS on July 31 and that's the guy they used to sit for Sosa occasionally.
The confounding factor this year, as with Schwarber, is reverse splits (which also means there's no reason to sit Bohm against RHP not that we have any LHB to play there currently). Did Cotham somehow find a way to make these guys more selective and effective on their weak sides while somehow breaking their strong sides?
