If they don't give up much for you, your new team might write you off quickly if you struggle.
But if they give up a real asset to obtain you, they'll be patient even if only to avoid embarrassment, and more likely because they won't consider a SSS confirmation that they made a bad decision.
So Williams should keep his nose to the grindstone, say the right cliches, let everyone know he's putting in the extra effort, and have other teams think he's a good guy in a bad situation - that not only helps the Phillies, it helps Williams if he is traded.
