Kingery in right field today. No Altherr or Williams. Alfaro catching.

I'm surprised to see Kingery and Hoskins in the same outfield. I'm sure both are competent but I would have expected either Williams or Altherr in left if Kingery was in right.

Have Hoskins and Santana played every day so far by the way?

While he obviously lacks repetitions I wouldn't lump Kingery with Hoskins defensively. He's a former OF and a better athlete.

It does mean the entire starting OF is guys who were infielders in AA though.

With the current roster construction I would really try to get Kingery in the lineup at 3B more than anywhere else. I think that is where he is likely better than the current starter. I know they are feeling their way through roles now (and injuries will almost certainly happen somewhere), but I just don't think Kingery makes them much better when he subs for an outfielder.

Of course the other idea is to push for a 2B trade if that settles down the roster. This is not anti-Cesar. It is the reality that we should be able to get something decent for him and somebody deserving needs to sit whenever Kingery plays.

It's a little surprising that he has yet to play 2B. I mean, if Herrera's not sacrosanct... Though obviously there hasn't been any need for days off per se this week. (Unless you're a RF, I guess.)

You'd be trading Cesar for pennies, probably. Market for 2B has been weak each of the last two trade windows and would only be weaker now. Check again in late June of course.

I think your scenario is more what they are expecting. Once Franco fades onto the bench (or off the roster) there won't be any rush to trade Cesar until the off-season.

I am really not sure I expect Franco to fade. Just expect Kingery's defense might be a bit better and Kingery's offense matches up better than against an OF.

But moving Hernandez might be more important. Not sure that he has little value. I am totally willing to wait a bit to see if there are injuries out there, but it might be more important to see if Franco can succeed if we think Kingery is the long term answer at 2B.

I'm not suggesting Kingery can't play well in the outfield its just that playing both Kingery and Hoskins means you have two players who are inexperienced out there. Given that they want to move players around theres no reason you need to play both at the same time. Maybe they just want to get their bats out there, but Franco isn't exactly on fire.

You always say that about players you think should be traded but there still has to be the right combination of a team that wants the player and a return the Phillies like more than managing the logjam. Given Kapler's approach it seems extremely unlikely that anything will change. And "fade" isn't really the word for Franco, if he is who he was last year and in ST he can't play. His only current skill set is easily replaced. I still think it's more likely all of them are here next year and Franco's not (possibly with a FA 3B. Or Machado at SS of course).

Well your reaction is always that is a trade does not happen it is because there is no offer. Which assumes the front office behaves perfectly and we kind of know they don't. Hernandez is a solid starter. There is a market for him.

The reason seeing Franco is more important is that we think Kingery is the long term 2B. We need to see more about whether Franco can improve than Hernandez. Like you I don't think Franco is the long term answer. But he is only 25 so he could potentially improve. Playing Kingery out of position is potentially hurting the team. I just don't see a future with both him and Hernandez there long term.
