Need to bounce back behind Wheeler tomorrow. Build a lead and nail it down. Go back home and win the series.

Going to have timo get the ace performance from Wheeler. We just lost the two games where we had the pitching advantage.

This should go down as a memorable game for how badly things were done badly.

Series stands at 2 games each but somehow it feels like the Phillies have already lost the series and will not be going to the World Series again this year. I know that is not yet true, but this defeat and the one last night sure were bad. A win tomorrow can set things right, but we will need Wheeler to pitch deep into the game and hope the offense can build up a nice lead.

you know what they say, momentum is tomorrow's starting pitcher. I bet they'd still be favored to win the series even if they lose tomorrow. but I'd rather not find out.

I'm still not sure where Thomson managed things badly. Both managers ran a bullpen game and used 16 pitchers between them. Arizona's were just better.

Six hours ago some of us - I know I was - hoped Sanchez might actually face 18 or even 12 batters.

Of course, coming into Arizona, all the momentum was with the Phillies. Momentum can change at any time, but the Phillies are going to have to play much better tomorrow to make that happen. While it feels like they have blown this series, it is really 2 games each at this point. A win tomorrow, and they come home needing only one of the next two. Lose tomorrow, and they really will be hanging by a thread.

It's the Negadelphian in me but damn it sure feels like the Dbacks just ripped our hearts out on this one and have all the momentum going into tomorrow night. Hell all we need to do is just win 1 in AZ to come back home and close things out comfortably, I just don't want to see whats happenening to the Rangers happen to us.

Kind of funny that both Kimbrel outings were not actually save situations (unless he was really supposed to finish, but c'mon).

This was an infuriating and back-breaking loss. Kerkering with two men on base was crazy. Why not get Walker into the game? Kimbrel and Alvarado are being over-used.

Agreed, throwing the rook in there in a pressure situation didn't go to well for us but Soto came up small and Kimbrel...well he Kimbreled his way through it

And when you look back over the whole game an unearned run way back with Sanchez was the difference.

I was hoping Kimbrel walked Thomas and was taken out....as it turned out not only did he give up a HR somehow he was allowed to stay in and face the next hitter who got a hit. Then a lefty was coming up with a Lefty warming up in the pen and Kimbrel is allowed to face him and hits him. There was no doubt in my mind the next batter (right handed) was getting a hit. If your bring in Alverado in the 8th why not with a lefty up?

I has hoping Lorenzen started the 8th inning.

I really have no sway with the argument that Walker should have had a key spot. He's never been a relief pitcher and his first inning ERA this year was 7.04. Which was also a good reason not to start him. But he should have been in the mix in a bullpen game early.

In the end all the relievers didn't cost them the game except for Kimbrel. Soto and Kerkering combined for that run but you have to expect your guys to protect that lead.

It sounds like Thomson really did want Kimbrel to finish the whole game which is kind of crazy.

He just described Lorenzen and Walker as "length" guys, and said that Tajiuan would have had extras.

Let's also not forget the Phillies wasted at least 1 inning of pitchers by being thrown out on the bases at least 3 times. How many runs might they have scored if Bohm isn't out trying to get to 2nd after the throwing error?
Multiple runners thrown out stealing 2nd with Harper at the plate...I thought you would want the hole with him batting?

exciting game. glad the Phils didn't lay down. a bunch of mistakes that hurt. Bohm trying to get to second was out by 15 feet. bases loaded and came away with 2. should have been more. pitchers are tired. Don't prolong the agony. hope they can get it back to Philly, although if they lose 3 straight, it won't matter. Stick the fork in, they are done.

It is hard to remember that the series is 2-2. The last two games have been such crushing loses that it seems like the series is over and the Phillies are already packing up to go home.

In reality, the Phillies lost both games because of multiple mistakes and questionable decisions on pitching. They are now faced with winning 2 of the next 3 games with the Diamondbacks, with the final two being played in the Bank. That is certainly not an impossible task. But they have to go out and do it. Frankly, if they cannot, they will have earned their elimination from the post season for this year.

My concern for the next game is that they have burned up the bullpen tonight. I really do not know what to expect after Wheeler. Certainly, Kimbrel is not available. Hoffman and Avarado probably not either. I am puzzled why they didn't use either Walker or Lorenzen for a couple innings tonight. Why have them on the roster if they are not used in a game like this one?

Well the Dbacks are going to be in the same situation….burnt up bullpen and hoping their ace goes at least 7.

Two things drove me crazy:
1) hitters chasing pitches well out of the K-zone, no patience, getting themselves out, Castellanos looks horrible.
2) pitchers pitching with fear, trying to nibble, getting behind then throwing lollipop FBs after walking a hitter or two. If you're going to throw a pitch two feet off the plate where no hitter will chase, you're just wasting pitches. Attack, attack, attack!
