One last thought in that vein. Didn't Sirianni tell us last off season that he was going to rethink his preseason participation philosophy? Given that the Eagles didn't look ready physically to play Game 1 (or 2) the last two season? Personally I don't like it -- I'm a success breeds success type guy.

I agree with this. I get the league rules that have eliminated a lot of the padded practices and physicality in general, but every season the ability of our defense to shed blocks & tackle declines more and the run game on offense struggles until several games into the season.

I also really dislike not playing the starters for at least one possession in preseason games not to mention one quarter or one half so they can test things out, get on the same page, see how the new guys perform etc. The first month of NFL games are so sloppy as a result that it is almost unwatchable. The majority of fans do not seem to care, however, and they continue to pay for horrible football.

The 3rd game was a disaster in many ways but McCollum, Booker and Burks did play well. I suspect you are right, they unseated someone ahead of them. (Maybe McCollum was already in the lead, he cemented it)

A Smith saved us an embarrassing release and hope of a 5th round pick if he could actually get to the IR.

Last years CB’s were atrocious, it looks to me like we have 5 guys that really could start now. All Hail Howie (again). I admit I wasn’t that sold on the Rodgers move, but it looks like it may have been a very smart move. All Hail Howie (yet again)

Our DL is kinda weak, but if that secondary plays like it looks like it could they are going to have more time to get to the QB

49/53 for me. I kept Burks instead of Bradberry, kept McMahon and Gates instead of Keegan (who I had going too the IR) and Kinnard.

I hit defense perfect except McCollum. And if you let me do my roster after it turned out that Smith was going to IR, I would have had McCollum on there, he was last guy out for me.

On offense the only thing I really missed was Keegan instead of McMahon. I had Keegan going on IR. I had Toth getting cut when they picked up the 3rd TE, instead that spot will likely open up with a trade or IR move or maybe they wait until they get their PS signed and then make a roster cut from a position they have depth on the PS.

On the whole, the roster was pretty easy this year. There wasn't one guy kept that I had them cutting ties with except McCollum and he was the last cut for me. Howie with some nice IR work to keep him around for now.

I'm sure they are hoping to get Jenkins, Burks, Toth, BSmith, Sam, Jobe, McMahon, Gates, Lewis, Davis-Price, Stephens, and a couple of others through to the PS. There are a couple of interesting Tight Ends out there in Stott and Parham. I can't believe the Texans cut Noah Brown!! I would sign him in a second.

I read yesterday that Noah Brown was battling a shoulder injury in camp for the Texans, but he was not waived-injured. There may be something going on there that is significant, but I can't figure out how that fits with just waiving him.

I’d really like to see one less QB. I have no idea why Grier is a keeper, he was beyond horrible when on the field. Even 4th string seems like a bad idea.

It is no surprise he is on the practice squad. He is there to help teach Kellen Moore's offense to the other QBs that are not getting the full reps during practice now that the season has started. He's basically another coach, with the added bonus of being available in a pinch in an extreme emergency without having to pick up a new playbook because he's still practicing.

I would think at some point when he decides to hang it up, he will end up on a staff with Kellen Moore.

I have nothing against him as a QB assistant coach, but a PS spot has value. We could (maybe) hold on to Jobe or poach a young player from someone else’s cuts.

If it gets down to the 4th QB either snap it directly to Barkley or see if Lane Johnson remembers how to play QB (kidding).

2 years ago the Niners showed us why you don’t have incompetent QB’s as backups.
