I mean I guess technically you're not wrong. They can't go on IR without being subject to waivers but if the Eagles valued either of them (or feared losing them) enough that they were sure they want to carry them on IR all year they could have delayed this move until cutdowns. But they might not/don't - or they need the roster space now (even if it's just for more training camp bodies).

Marvin Wilson has been hanging around. He had a pretty good career at FSU. the knock on him was that his work ethic was not too strong and took some plays off. Maybe after the eagles released him last time, he might see the writing on the wall. he has this one more chance. see if he runs with it.

McPhearson, Noah Elliss, and Cleveland all cleared waivers, and all are now on the Eagles IR. The only way they can play this year is if they reach an injury settlement with the Eagles and then resign with us. McPhearson clearly is done for the year. (Details from Zach Berman). Below is what I think is a realistic 53:

Hoping to pick up a punter and for Ricks to make it to the PS later. I have no idea how they will evaluate Calcaterra versus Jackson. Jackson seemingly has more athleticism and has shown well in practice, but has been injured a lot. The last few OLinemen might be shuffled to take advantage of not being on the roster week 1. Andrews/Kelly/F.Johnson all should end up on the team sometime--FJophnson resigning will mean they keep him on the 53. Opeta, too, probably. I'd like to keep Street, too. Cutting Barnett would be my choice, but not the Eagles'.

I can't imagine 11 DB and 4 LB. I know the game is moving in that direction, but that seems extreme. I have to think we find some LB that we add and drop at least 1 (probably 2) DB from your list.

We are going to be looking hard at Specisl Teams players that can at least take the field as a LB sometimes. We are down 2 of our best ST players from a marginal unit last year.

I think we will have to protect Ricks. Even on the plays he looked bad on in the 2nd game he was "there". He might be a very, very good CB with some training and maturity. I can't imagine that no team wouldn't be willing to take a rush on him.

I think Goodrich snd Evans easily could slip through to the PS (or equivalent players). They seem like long shots to make the team. I also suspect that Sills' tape in game is so bad that he has made it so he doesn't need a roster spot. He was noticeably terrible in game 2.

I really hope we find a different punter. Siposs is not good.

I am surprised Ian Book hasn't gone to the team and said "if you aren't even going to let me take the field, release me now and maybe I can get a chance at a 3rd QB job somewhere".

It is hard to believe someone could go from being one of the best QB in HS, highly recruited and going to Notre Dame as a savior to this. He looked beyond confused in game 1. It isn't that he made bad throws (he did), but most of the time he couldn't even find throws to try, against a 4th string defense. I am pretty sure he would be bad in an "adult" flag football team, much less an NFL team. He was just hopeless out there.

Evans, Wallace,and Edmonds are S/LB hybrids anywa. Even N.Smith. They have all lined up at LB this summer already. I think they may view Evans as a pure S/LB hybrid.

Interestingly, Bo had only 3 LB on his roster prediction today.

I don't think they can find anyone who is all that good. A safety can tackle a RB and can pass defend against a RB or TE probably better than the available LBs. They will get banged up more.

I'm pretty confident with Dean and Cunningham starting and Elliss as the primary back-up. Queen would be costly, and has not played well enough that the Ravens want to hold on to him.

I honestly think they should keep Devon Allen over Covey. I know Allen has been playing on the 3rd/4th team, but he is the more dangerous KR. Not sure if they are ready to trust him with PR duties (a much more important and difficult job), but he is a threat.

Covey is basically useless on offense except in mop up time (which hopefully will be often). Allen is least a guy that the other team needs to worry about. A safety has to be a little scared when he goes deep, because he can flat out outrun any CB.

If they cut Covey he will probably be added to the PS and they can elevate him to return punts for 3 weeks. Allen can't catch punts (according to him in an interview). Zaccheaus would have to be the punt returner if Covey is lost or can't go.

Allen is reportedly the best gunner on the team, though.

VanSummerin with a "eye catching" 17 tackles in the last game. He has no chance at the roster, but he is going to get on someone's PS and might get elevated if he can play ST or "stolen" if done team needs LB's at some point.

Van Summeran made a lot of mistakes and most of his tackles were downfield--beat reporters were not impressed with his game despite the high number of tackles. Current scuttlebutt has him getting cut and ending up on the 'Eagles PS.

yeah, hope he can make it to the practice squad. but he had a really poor miss of a sack (on Richardson) last night. Dead to rights and took a bad angle.

We want him to have some bad plays so other teams don't claim him. The missed sack is actually good in the long run.

Ian Book and TEs Tyree Jackson and Dan Arnold waived today to let them get ahead of the rush and have a better chance of catching on with someone else.

Van Summerin is extremely athletic and extremely raw, PS this year, STs next year and see how he develops.

Also cut Dennis Kelly, Josh Andrews, and Brett Toth. Early cuts have an easier path to the practice squad since they are rarely claimed. I know the teams claim it is so they can more easily catch on with another team, but these early releases almost never get claimed.

Cut C Cameron Tom today, too. Johnny King and Tyrese Robinson were reported to be cut on Twitter (X).
