Howie playing the long game. It doesn't seem like there is much of a downside to this, and I would assume Driscoll knows the guy from their time together in college and stood up for him.

The article above mentions Rodgers in connection with a crowded "running back room". The editors must have had the day off at NBC Sports.

I think you are absolutely correct. Howie would only do this if he received good info on the quality of Rodgers as a person. Potentially another gem.

It has been a long time since we had up and coming inexpensive CB's. That were good.

yup I noticed that too. thought it was also weird because I'm not sure anyone ever refers to a "cornerback room" (a secondary room, maybe?)

honestly you've got a little too much faith in the state of media today to even think there are editors who had the day off, versus just not existing. (not that there are zero, but their numbers are fewer and their workloads are greater).

I think this is also an instance where the guy was dumb, not ethically challenged. we can debate which is better/worse I suppose.

Pretty much a move with no real risk. In a year if he doesn't do anything stupid you give him a chance, so he is essentially the first signing for the 2024 Training Camp.

You have to think someone (Driscoll) knew him and thought that there was a reasonable chance at redemption.

I would imagine the fact that Sirianni worked for the Colts probably had more weight than the Driscoll connection, but they were definitely pals.

Apparently Siposs is a surprise release. Might get brought back on PS and elevated for the first few games if they don't find a better option (although that seems like a silly use of a spot).

Report says they are having tryouts today. Wonder if Araiza is one of them?

Many of these will be back if they clear waivers and added to the PS. Covey will be back to return punts spending 3 weeks on the PS until space opens up (if he clears). They will add another punter/holder. Using the P spot allows them IR Ojomo, for example, to the short term IR. Good-Jones and Ngata are almost sure to make the PS if they clear.

I'm guessing he (Ariaza) will not be looked at by any NFL teams until the civil lawsuits (his accuser is suing him and he's suing her too) are resolved. Even if he wins both of them things could come out in court that won't look good, and/or teams just don't want anything to do with him (whether for PR reasons or moral reasons). If it was as simple as, he did nothing wrong and it was all a big mistake, he'd already be signed somewhere.

Sounds like Araiza has been trying to market info to 20 teams hoping to get a look, unsuccessfully. I don't know what might come out in the suits -- the record seems pretty well established. In the end, at best, he was a college senior having sex with a HS minor - not something that will sit well with most people.

Yea, frankly I just don't think the bad press is worth it for a punter. Not that they aren't important, but the differences between them at not that large, and until he can really show that he isn't a problem he probably won't get much of a look.

I suspect that there were things that came out that is just making teams say "I don't need the extra 1-2 yards" for the headache. Besides he is still unproven at the NFL level, who knows what stupidity he would involve himself in with an NFL lifestyle.

Right, that article was from May, it was reported after that that he worked out for the Jets, and Real Sports did a story on it in June, and since then, crickets. So I think it's safe to say nobody wanted him. If and when the civil suits are found in his favor, perhaps he'll have a path and if they're not, not. But even just having it all rehashed during either or both trials is not something a team needs (and you're not wrong to add, "for a punter," which several GMs did admit in one of the other articles).

This is the first thing Howie has done this offseason which I think is less than excellent. He should have upgraded the punter (several good ones are available), upgraded WR depth, and shuffled a couple of the 53 onto IR. Interesting that the Colts signed Sills. I wonder if it was Steichen who lobbied for Sills last year?

Sad to see us lose Tyree Jackson, great physical talent that always seems to be hurt. I guess when we traded for a 4th TE he just lost a spot.

I assume the Punter search continues, if there plan is to just elevate Siposs for a few weeks and then hope something better happens, that is not unreasonable but I am guessing this is the first time a team has used the PS for a starting punter, doing these types of things makes me suspect the league will close these types of loopholes.

For the second year in a row.... my birthday present to myself is to go to the Eagles Home Opener (with my Brother's in Law). If anyone is around and wants to meet up, I believe we are in section 201 this time and will be tailgating as early as they let us during the day. My Brother In Law's cooking is somewhat legendary, trust me, we had about 50 people wanting to try his cooking last year as they walked by once word got out.

I cant remember a season I looked forward to more than this one. Hurts just strikes me as a guy that one day I will say he was my favorite player ever.
