I think I am ready to just start everyone on the 25 unless they want a 4th and 15 or 20 option. If the kickoff is too dangerous why keep it at all? Most are touchbacks anyway. Taking the kickoffs away will subtract a few minutes from each game too which is a plus.

One obvious flaw with this:

You are on the kicking team and see a terrible kick. Ignore the “can’t move” because you know the other team will decline (unless it is an add on to the return) because you want to cutoff the return as soon as possible. Don’t let a bad kick also get returned.

I assume the penalty is 5 yd Illegal Procedure.

The best thing about kickoffs for me is that it gives me a longer break after the touchdown, since I don’t care if I miss the inevitable touchback. At my age, a longer break is useful…

I am guessing this might be a disaster. Roseman is known as the guy who works the Salary Cap with more skill than any other GM. It may very well be that it was actually his childhood friend that was the secret weapon, I guess we will find out in the next few years.

Salary cap is 'successfully managed' by effectively pushing $ into future years. Eventually, there comes a bump, regardless of who is in that role. The magic can't last forever, although it can enlarge the team's postseason window.

I honestly think that the Eagles do keep pushing it forward hoping for an uncapped year. They almost had it a few years ago, but ended up having to cut a bunch of players when there was a sudden labor agreement.

The Eagles have been the prototype of how to manage the Cap, they have constantly found ways to fix their needs when no one thought they could. Certainly pushing cap money forward is part of that, but they also have extended guys in season to purge the remaining money in years that other teams just let get lost.

You are right, the pushing forward carries a burden, but smart franchises no when to hit reset and let a season eat up much of that “lost” cap. We have done that a few times in the last 15 years.

It sounds like this is a guy who might have been long gone were he not so close to Howie. The brain drain of VPs and Assistant GMs has been pretty steady, even more so than coordinators (where they leave for better jobs when things are good and get fired when things aren't).

So I watched a few videos of the new kickoffs.

I honestly think this is extremely exploitable. If the return team can “pull” a few players and overwhelm one side of the field, or even one area they might be able to create a breakaway. It looks possible. Special Teams Coordinators are about to become incredibly important, at least for a couple seasons until the options of “plays” here are worked out. I like the increase in strategy and possibilities, but it may become way to easy to get a big return.

The other thing is if I was a kicking team coach I would tell my players if you see a bad kick, say coming down around the 25, ignore the “can’t move” and start early. The penalty will be better than the result. If they stay still it will be way too easy to “break” a runback with the returner starting that close to them.

I also suspect it is possible that the return team will become 2 returners and every offensive lineman on the roster and then DT’s that can block to fill it out if needed. One or two pancake blocks might be a TD.

Going to be interesting.

Totally stupid move. Reddick still has good years left, and to only get 2026 compensation for him, horrible. It probably will end up a 2nd, but the window is right now and Reddick was under contract for this year. I would have kept him and let him walk, the compenstation pick would probably be a second or third round next year, so unless he would have been a clubhouse distraction, which I don't think he would have been knowing the kind of person he is, this was a really dumb move.

The comp pick would have also been in 2026, the highest comp pick possible is end of the third round, and you only get comp picks if you lose more free agents than you sign. So from a compensation standpoint, this is not bad. I would have liked to have seen him play out his contract and help the team next year, but there would not have been any compensation if they were active in free agency.

Well, this may change the draft philosophy, they may go after an edge rusher or a CB with the first pick this year. Howie may also trade up. If they stay where they are, I might be interested in Chop Robinson as an edge.

I think it was basically irreparable. He wanted out if the Eagles didn't want to give him a new deal now, and they'd already decided they didn't want to do it when they started making the other moves. Didn't affect his trade value either way because everyone knew it (and Eagles would have traded him a lot more quickly and not had to delay the roster bonus if better offer was out there). Both sides are probably a little disappointed, Eagles wanted more and Reddick probably still doesn't get his dream new team/deal.

22 is a bit early for Chop. they could probably trade down to somewhere between 28-30 and still get him or a very solid cornerback. Value chart says 22 = 30 plus a mid-3rd round pick.
