The Eagles are not going to make any "best offseason moves" lists because frankly most of their signings are under the radar of many, but, reluctantly, I have to give Howie credit. It starts with the guys that he extended last season, they were almost all good ideas (not sold on Sweat yet), but locking up Mailata is somewhere between genius and legendary. Extending Goeddert is also just a strong move.
This offseason our real signings were Reddick (very good), Kyzir White (how did we steal this guy?), and Pascal, who fills a need of a WR with some leadership, doesnt cost too much and hopefully can help develop guys like Reagor, who really needs it and give Smith a "running mate". We didnt spend alot, but I think in each case we got value.
Harris is an ok signing. He fills a huge need and allows for some continuity. Obviously the draft or another FA signing is needed at both CB and S.
Getting Barnett on a cheap contract is not bad. The guy does some stupid things, no doubt, but he has gotten better about that in the last 2 years (does it less) and he just feels like a break out possibility. He does get pressure at times, he doesnt seem to cause problems, somehow it just "feels" like a solid cheap-ish contract to me.
We didnt need to have a huge FA offseason because we have 3 first round picks. Even if we move one of them for a 3rd this year and a 1st next year (which I would do), we are still going to fill some holes during the draft.
Needs still:
CB. Huge need. Maybe 2.
OL Depth (always a need for every team)
DL Depth (we have some older guys here, I really dont count on Cox for more than about 8 games)
S: Maybe in the 3rd round or so. We need talent here.
Backup QB if Minshew is moved. We may have missed our chance to turn him into a 2nd or 3rd round pick (if it ever existed)
Returner
Backup RB? Would be nice if Sanders could stay on the field a little more.
We need the WR group to start to excel. We have invested alot there, there is talent but we need a better evaluation of what we have. JJAW either needs to REALLY improve or be released, what he did last season was almost a running joke.
Reagor does have moments, but when he screws up he seems to do it at times that really matter. I dont want to give up on him, but he is pretty much on his last chance at this point, if he drops the first throw to him next season the crowd really might charge the field.
Watkins need to get more of a chance, he just seems to be lingering in that #3/#4 spot, but he is a dangerous guy with the ball. He can threaten a team when he gets the chance.
I keep hoping Ward turns into a 60-80 reception possession type guy, but it just isnt happening, he might need to be replaced. I keep hoping he is Jason Avant II, but honestly I think it just isnt true, shame, it is a great story of a guy using his extreme football IQ and very limited skills to make a career.
