The Giants' third-string QB is simply better than Minshew.

He was surprisingly good. Minshew is thought of as a premier back up, and will make a lot more money than Davis Webb next year, which means the league thinks he's better. Remember, if the Eagles don't drop three pretty easy interceptions yesterday Webb doesn't look nearly as good; also remember that back-up QBs are always better the first game in which they appear (as Minshew was vs. the Cowboys).

My guess is that Webb may be looking at a payday too. Someone is going to throw some money at him to be a backup on a bad team with the idea that he might be able to play. He is clearly in the path of being a coach, but he might have a $5-8M payday coming this offseason also, simply based on him executing a solid game plan about as good as it could have been done yesterday.

True. His elusiveness was impressive. He made some throws and some healthy-Hurts level runs. As for Minshew: he'll get a new deal from someone, but for less than he was expecting a month ago.

There is a lot of talk about Hurts' shoulder being really sore. Playoff posturing maybe?? if not, will this affect the offensive game plan. I don't think the eagles can win with hurts staying in the pocket, throwing the football. The giants really exploited his situation by blitzing almost every down (which they do almost anyway). I think the eagles should activate Sermon and pound the ball with all four running backs if Hurts' arm is suspect. he has another week and a half to heal, but is it enough time to be manageable? I thought that maybe 4th and 30 was going to be the defining moment, but now maybe the running of Hurts too much in the Bears game might be. You can get hurt on any play in the NFL, but running him so much in that game instead of the running backs ( against a poor running defense team) was pretty dumb, I think. oh well, you can't rewind the season.

I will take this bracket over the alternatives. But, hard to beat the same team three times. 49ers were just the 15th team to do it. Most of those teams were indeed at home for the third win. Eagles gotta be rusty (and haven't actually played a solid 60 minutes of football for quite some time, even with all the caveats). Giants aren't really that good. But I don't think they'll be taking it lightly. And you really don't get division rivalry games in the playoffs often (only four times each with both Dallas and NY) though that's likely to continue changing.

The counter to the 3x situation is that the last Giants game was so vanilla, and Hurts was so restricted that it hardly counts, unless, of course, Hurts is restricted by injury on Saturday. Expect a lot of new wrinkles on Saturday. We have for-real tape on Giants from their first playoff game.

Not for nothing but there have only been 24 occasions since 1970 where a team has the opportunity to beat a team for the 3rd time in one season. And that team was successful 15 out of 24 times.

And regardless, this is the game to have. If they're gonna lose to Dallas at least it won't be this week and if the Cowboys knock off SF I think that's okay too.

the more negative view: the limited Hurts Eagles team couldn't beat a Giants B team, not the team that beat Minnesota. But the real Eagles team did it in the other game of course.

you're correct Zamby. Which Eagles team is going to show up. I really won't be surprised if they lose to the giants. Giants are coming in hot and the eagles, well who knows. I hope it's a win, to keep the season going, but we'll see. I sense a real big overconfidence here. the Phils whole playoff run was not expected. I did think they had a chance against the Cardinals, but that was it. They got hot. The eagles situation is, and from about middle of the season, everyone was talking about Super Bowl, and still is. it is expected. I'm not too sure.

Yeah I feel like Squire's adjustment to the stat I'd seen - that teams are 15-9 when trying to win for the third time - suggests it's not that tough. And the thing you posted adds that the home team was 12-5 at that point.

I don't think overconfidence is an issue given the past month. Injuries or not Eagles lost 2 of their last 3 and struggled against the Bears. Giants on the road is really their only recent great win, and arguably Cowboys, Packers and Giants are the only great wins over a 12 game stretch (with just the Vikings and the surprise Jags as two others, even if the Commanders were decent).

Before the playoffs started I was surprised that the Eagles were still the favorite in the NFC but that was just based on seed and record, I believe the 49ers are now (and the two AFC teams ahead of both).

Every team you play in the playoffs is capable of beating you. I'd be just as nervous with the Vikings/Cowboys/Bucs. Part of the package if you're hoping to go to the Super Bowl!!

An incredibly dominant first half by Eagles. Don't let up on D. Aggressive DB play is working, we don't want to see the prevent defense here. Jones will pick that apart and momentum will shift.

A lot of people wanted to see Hurts and Johnson sit ASAP but it could have easily gotten tight. Over for sure now finally.

AJ Brown was really upset that he was not playing in the last few drives. I think after the long pass that he didn't get that there was suspicion that he may have tweaked something. He was very upset with the lack of targets (or something) at the end. Hopefully he is ok, he is key to this team.

Team played a fantastic game. The Giants could only move the ball on the ground and being down 28 at halftime they had one drive that featured the run, but other than that had nothing.

Head scratching punt by the Giants with 12 minutes to go, with some momentum around midfield in 4th and 8. They just didn't think they could complete an 8 yard pass. Almost a case of conceding.
