Yeah but it's not baseball where you just show up for one extra day. They're not just showing up to work the three hours they missed when the game got called. The two teams would essentially be working an extra week (practice, travel, time off lost). In the abstract the reward for that is potential playoff success (and the money that comes with it) as well as that possible week off (ironically) but in terms of actual work performed they are getting nothing (and like they say you don't get paid for the games you get paid for practice). And they also don't make more if their team gets the home gate, which, let's face it, is the real reason owners would want this settled on the field, not competitive integrity.

The best plan I've heard is just play the Bills/Bengals game the week after week 18 and then schedule the playoffs the following week and remove the extra week before the Super Bowl. I'm sure all the other teams will like the idea of an extra week before the playoffs start, like an extra bye week at the end of the season.

This way the AFC doesn't get an extra bye week, wild card round would be all AFC and NFC games. The Bills/Bengals would get great ratings as the only game on the week before and nothing is left up to winning percentages, the seeds would all be earned fair and square. Only the Bills and Bengals would not have a bye week, though the Bills could have one if they win vs. the Patriots and Bengals and they would get the 1 seed and thus would not have to play the wild card round.

So the game is cancelled, the schedule will not change, but the home field scenarios have. These are the possibilities:

• If Buffalo (12-3) and Kansas City (13-3) both win or tie, a Bills-Chiefs championship game would be at a neutral site.

• If Buffalo and Kansas City both lose and Baltimore wins or ties, a Bills-Chiefs championship game would be at a neutral site.

• If Buffalo and Kansas City both lose and Cincinnati (11-4) wins, a Bills or Bengals vs. Chiefs championship game would be at a neutral site.

If the Ravens win Sunday over the Bengals and are matched against Cincinnati in an AFC wild-card game, the site would be determined by a coin flip.

If Cincinnati wins or if the two teams are not matched against each other after a potential Ravens win, regular scheduling procedures would be used.

I know NFL contracts are extremely player-unfriendly compared to MLB (mostly in not being guaranteed) but I did not realize this. I don't reckon Buffalo making an exception here is actually anything to be particularly applauded; just highlights the fact that myriad other players suffer season-ending, career-threatening and even if potentially long-term life-altering injuries while taking a financial hit on top of that.

And of course Hamlin could still be released, and hasn't been in the league long enough to automatically get pension or health insurance if he's unable to play. That will get taken care of too I'm sure, but only for him.

Jalen gets he start today, but the Giants are starting Davis Mills, so I don't think Jalen will get more than a couple series before they go to Minshew.

I would think it's still score dependent. Jump out to a nice lead and/or keep NY off the board, and sure.

getting ready to head down to the game. some Joe Webb vibes are in my head from a few years ago. I'd love to see Minshew finish this game, only due to the eagles winning by a lot. Don't screw this up. Get the win and they have a great chance to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. Lose today and they will be one and done.

it's not for four hours, pace yourself!

No good can come from losing of course but I don't think they'd be one and done necessarily. It's not last year (as far as playing the Bucs). And they'd be hard-pressed to win the second game.

The NFC playoffs are:

49ers vs. Seahwaks or Packers
Vikings vs. Giants
Buccaneers vs. Cowboys

Same Cowboys team that struggled against Houston and lost to Jacksonville and only barely beat the Eagles' back-up QB at home, no? Their other two most recent wins (Indy and TN) not worth much either.

I don't say that to be arrogant of course. But the Cowboys could lose to Tampa (just like everyone said the Eagles would be one and done as the 5 seed). And the Eagles' most likely loss is probably in the NFC championship game. But still good to have that at home if they get there.

I did Zamby. we got down there at about 2:30 and went inside to the club section to eat. so it was fine. I behaved. they got the job done but it wasn't pretty. crowd was really amped in the beginning. as the game went on became more subdued. it still go loud at times. I couldn't believe that hurts head to play the whole game. game was much closer than I thought it would be. amazing how the giants seem to blitz on every down. we'll see what happens to them in the playoffs. The eagles better get it together. go Birds.

yeah I was not able to watch the game, last time i checked it was 19-0 and then....

Seems to me Hurts' health - and the strategic effect it has on the offense - remains the biggest concern right now.

And hopefully the Eagles don’t play like they did today. I understand that a win’s a win, but being taken to the last play of the game by a bunch of third stringers from a supposedly inferior team does not inspire confidence. In a way, this win seemed more deflating to me than the previous two losses. At least in those games there was a valid excuse.

I mean, there's still kind of an excuse - a fully healthy Hurts (to say nothing of Johnson) and they probably go up 21-0, sit the starters, and either cruise from there or at least it would have been the back-ups letting it get close. But if I was a serious sports bettor I think I'd be putting my money on the 49ers.

Hopefully it will be a healthier and sharper Eagles team in two weeks.

The problems of the past 3 games show how dependent the Eagles offense is upon Hurts being a runner. Without that, they appear to be a below average offense. He has to run smarter than he did on the play where he was injured -- a QB should not try to run over defenders. But he has to run for the Eagles to have a chance. The D was hurt when Gannon seemed to switch to a semi-prevent D in the second half. The Giants' third-string QB is simply better than Minshew.
