Boy it is just hard to imagine them getting the Indy pick if this keeps up. If they have no shot it would be in Carson's own interest to take a few games (and halves) off to get himself a better teammate next year. Of course in that division, they could still turn things around and win it.

I think that’s the difference between how fans think and GMs/coaches think - if the Colts have an abysmal season, both the GM and the coach has to think his job is at risk.

Assuming one or both of the GM or the coach thinks he is at risk, there is no way that the Colts don’t play Wentz until the bitter end unless he totally stinks up the joint. The backup QBs are Jacob Eason and Bret Hundley - yuck. If the Colts make it to week 13 and have a 3-10 record, are they benching Wentz to keep the pick one round earlier (still lose a 2nd rounder instead of a first) when at 5-12 maybe there’s no firing but at 3-14 there could be? I doubt it. I don’t see them switching unless he’s terrible, hurt or the coach/GM has already been fired.

Well, that's fair. But impossible to say really. I gotta think you get fired for winning five games just as easily as three. Six too for that matter. 8-9 and you only just miss the playoffs, different story. I also think if they were to actually fire their GM or coach they'd be giving up on the entire Wentz trade entirely. Everyone's job is probably safe for another season, at least in the current scenario where Wentz is also healthy and good. If he goes bust, maybe they clean house.

Of course there's also still COVID.

Then he throws another pick and the referee is stopping Barnett from touching Brady DURING THE PLAY. Barnett isn’t allowed to block him. You think that anyone else gets this protection?

Have to give TB credit. They hold on both offense and defense and get no calls.

Singleton sure makes a lot of tackles. Sadly almost all of them are 5-8 yards after he first makes contact. I guess it isn’t good to complain about it, if he didn’t eventually get them to the ground they would be running down the field to the secondary.

This is just complete domination tonight. I can’t think of any Eagle having a good night. All 53 of our players are losing to the other 53.

I honest think Geodert wants to test FA. I think not getting to be a #1 TE has stopped him from considering staying, maybe this trade will change his mind (if I am right), but my fear is that his Dad is in his ear and wants him to go to the dark side of that team in Texas.

I am a little surprised at how little the Eagles did get for Ertz from a team that clearly needs him. The Cardinals are a team contending for the SB and they don’t have a TE at all, we had them over a barrel a little bit. A late 5th round pick and a 6th rounder this last draft that didn’t really make the team is not much, the guy we got is basically of the quality you could poach off any practice squad.

Since there was no pressing need to trade Ertz I am a little confused unless they were trying to prove the Dallas G that they were serious about him.

It sounds like they don't think there is enough playing time for two TEs in this offense, and yes, they want to both see more of Goedert and make him feel like he's the man. They also gain cap space. And, despite Howie saying otherwise, it points in the direction of more seller trades... as it should.

Also it's a huge favor to Ertz, who has not only wanted out, but get to play for a good team.

They probably got more than they would have in the off-season, when Howe was supposedly holding out for a third but being offered a a fifth or sixth.

Very conceivable they just liked the player offered. Gowan had at least one 3rd Round grade pre-draft but lasted until the 6th. He was good enough to make the 53 man roster of a contending team.

I think they gave a tacit promise to Ertz that he would be traded by the deadline, if he played so that his value might be increased. Last season and this season Ertz way less than the Ertz who starred for us. I think his performance a victim of Eagles QB situation the past few seasons, but it still had to seriously depress his value. The Eagles needed to save the cap $. To have the Cardinals over a barrel, really needed to have a second team with serious interest in him.

Unless we get a new QB or Hurts shows more ability and willingness to throw to middle of field, I doubt Goedert will want to stay.
