It sounds like they don't think there is enough playing time for two TEs in this offense, and yes, they want to both see more of Goedert and make him feel like he's the man. They also gain cap space. And, despite Howie saying otherwise, it points in the direction of more seller trades... as it should.
Also it's a huge favor to Ertz, who has not only wanted out, but get to play for a good team.
They probably got more than they would have in the off-season, when Howe was supposedly holding out for a third but being offered a a fifth or sixth.
