Defense, defense, defense.

It's not clear whether the defensive problems after the Atlanta game are due to scheme issues or talent, but it's likely to be somewhat of three things: scheme problems, players not yet familiar with the new scheme, and aging/lack of talent of the players in the scheme. Get some really good talent and let's see what happens on D.

And in the meantime, let's blitz at least a little bit. Dallas and KC have good offenses, but you have to at least slow them down a bit to compete.

Howie better not screw this up. he has a chance to really upgrade this team in the draft. no trades, keep the picks and if you can trade Bo Scott for a #1, i'd do it. Also, when is the last time you have seen an eagles D lineman knock down a pass at the line of scrimmage?

I think I can safely say you can’t trade Boston Scott for a #1 pick. Or even a 5th round pick.

Eagles lose and rest of division wins. This is going to be a big draft and hopefully we have the “easy” 4th place finish schedule again next year, because it sure didn’t work out this year. Most of our “easy” games turned into games against very good teams, at least in the first half of the season.

Next week is the Jets, let’s not get too excited about that performance (even though they just won), because after that it is another tough schedule stretch and this is a young, but talented team. We are not a good team, but young and talented.

Hurts is at least solidifying his hold on the job for this season. He isn’t great, but he really might turn into a Russell Wilson like performance generator. He has the ability, just needs to clean up some mistakes.

There is a chance if Gainwell is for real that the might be looking to get value for Miles Sanders. A 2nd round pick? More? Less?

I like Miles and think he's underused, but less. The RB position has such a short career and is undervalued in the draft. It's the reason that the Cowboys were foolish to draft Zeke and the Giants to draft Barkley early. Giving up a 2nd rounder and a decent contract for a RB is not something that smart teams will do.

EDIT: To be clear, RBs are undervalued in the draft because they can have a lot of production but short on longevity. Every year after the draft diminishes the players value.

Less. Probably a 4th rounder. He's not playing all that well and he's not being used much and he has miles on his legs.

What mile on his legs, he has never been a workhorse, getting 25 carries a game, he has always been used sparingly with the pass first Eagles. He was behind Barkley at PSU, so if anything he does not have a lot of wear. I don't know why the Eagles don't run him more, or run more period, he has a career 4.9 per run average, which is really good.

He runs like he has miles and miles on his legs. Not the guy he was. He lacks the fast spurt through the hole.

His issue is that he bounces too many runs outside when the hole is tight. It doesn't seem to me that his legs are gone.

And he doesn't make it to the corner and gets tackled for loss.

So, call me crazy, but I actually see the Eagles in an upset win this weekend at Carolina. Just a funny feeling that the offense will actually succeed against the NFL’s best defense.

After that, the schedule is horrendous. Next 6 weeks could all be losses.

Carolina with the ultimate disrespect of the Eagles offense. 3rd and 9, the usual holding call on an incomplete pass and Carolina accepts it to move them back and gives them another chance rather than a certain punt. That is ugly.

Carolina with a TD on, once again, Gannon’s defense being beat by scheme. They flood one zone and the Eagles double cover one guy and leave the TE alone in the end zone.

Greg Ward costs the Eagles a TD with an absolutely moronic play to get an offensive PI. He is playing his way off the team.

Singleton simply cannot make plays. He gets tackle stats but he continues to do things to help the other team. Another stupid penalty before halftime. Turns a nice 2 yard loss into a first down at the Eagles 15.

It is going to be a great draft. I wonder who the coach will be. When you are already publicly criticizing the unqualified Defensive Coordinator that you just hired it is time to question whether the Head Coach is ready for this job.

Ok, I said these things about the defense when they had started the game with 3 scores on 4 drives. Credit to Gannon as clearly things changed. They challenged everything, they stopped giving up things in front of them and luckily Donald made some key bad throws.
First time in 4 years we actually had CB’s jumping in front of WR.

The Eagles cannot afford to be winning a game like this one. The dream of 3 Top 10 picks is already slipping away.

I am guessing Miles Sanders is VERY happy Deuce Staley is no longer his coach. He would be getting quite a little talking to now if Deuce was waiting for him on the sideline.

Still, good game. Carolina did not play well, Hurts did. CB’s REALLY showed up and the DL made some very good plays with a lack of their usual stupid penalties.
