So we pay FA rates for a WR and give up significant draft capital for the right. Makes no sense to me.

I would have drafted best available CB or Safety, a huge hole we have. Now we will have to overpay for someone like the Honey Badger.

They traded the 18th pick in the draft for a zero risk all-pro wide receiver. Can't complain on that one. It will get A+ grades from all the pundits.

Allows them to fully evaluate Hurts, too. No excuses for not being able to throw to that crew...

And, as a bonus, AJ Brown and Hurts have been close friends for quite a while. Hurts was at his draft party.

I love that trade. Cap is going way up, the money is irrelevant, especially given that Hurts is cheap.

Eagles only have 4 picks remaining, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 7th. They may still be able to get more pick with trades of Dillard and Reagor.

Optimistic view from Day One: Eagles add Pro Bowl-caliber receiver entering his prime years as well as athletic freak and potential centerpiece of interior Defensive Line for next decade. They still have plenty of draft capital, especially in future years, to make additional moves.

Pessimistic: Eagles forced to cough up $25M a year and opportunity cost of adding a much-needed starter on Defense (any of CB, Safety, LB or Edge Rusher) to pay for the horrible mistakes of drafting Reagor and JJAW. They also give up 4 draft picks to move up just 2 spots to take a defensive lineman so far limited to being a 2-down player with conditioning questions and shockingly low production metrics, missing out on possible #1 wideout (Jameson Williams) and potential Pro Bowler at Safety (Kyle Hamilton).

A 1st and a third for a guy who could be a FA

and it seems Treylon Burks would have been there, whose comp is AJ Brown.
That said, we are getting a rather studly WR.

I thought a WR was our biggest need. This year is mainly about deciding whether or not Hurts is our QB. Couldn't do that without top receivers. Last season the D got gouged heavily by the run. It altered how the secondary had to play. I think we almost fixed that, we still need another LB.

The optimistic view is that the Eagles think they have enough young talent already on the team that as slew of picks after the third round weren't going to move the needle. Probably one of those picks goes for the punter.

The more realistic view is that Roseman realizes that this was never going to be the Eagle's year to excel. They will evaluate what they have and attempt to make the offense more passing oriented. The young DBs will get a chance.

Today should be about adding two more DBs. A chance for the 2nd-rounder to be a starter this year. I'm not hopeful they can do that with a third rounder.

$25K/year for Brown means we are not adding a significant FA this year.

They have extra draft capital to realistically bring it all together in 2023. They also will be freeing up some $.

It was a lot to pay to add Brown. Far preferable that they just signed a FA WR. Reality says the combination of questions about Hurts and the run-centered offense of the second half of last season made them an extremely unpopular destination for WR.

I will say that right now its not entirely clear to me whether we control AJ Brown for 4 years at 25m AAV or 5 years at 20.8m AAV.

I believe it is 4. They are not referring to it as an extension but a contract. I could be wrong

So, I really don't want the Eagles to move in from Eleuthera of Reagor or Dillard, but I accept it will probably happen with Reagor.

Dillard to me is easy to reason why we need to keep him. In today's NFL you don't need 5 starting OL, you really need 8-9. He is clearly one of our best 8-9, so no reason to give him away for a 5th round pick.

Reagor is harder because to keep him and Ward you have 6 WR. That is tough, but possible. Maybe they let Ward go as his value has decreased, but I still hope he finds a way on to the roster. That leaves Reagor, who has been bad often for the team, but I do see the talent, he has made plays but he just keeps messing up important plays. Once again, I think it is selling ridiculously low to give him away for the 180th pick in the draft. 1-2 WR injuries and we will be wishing we had him back.

Minshew is a harder discussion. I think we could possibly get a 2nd - 3rd round pick for him, hard to pass on that when we desperately need CB, S, LB (?) and TE help. If all we can get is a 5th rounder, keep him. We would need a backup QB if we trade him and that may not be so easy.

We still have no CB opposite Slay who is already 30+ in age. I know people say McPhearson will be ready, but to me that is a fantasy not only based on the fact he has rarely stepped on the field and Roseman's track record of drafting CB.
Marcus Epps and Anthony Harris are our starting S. That is embarrassing.

Now, at LB, we've at least signed Reddick and White, but I still have no idea how the defense overall executes in Gannon's scheme that has the DL attacking upfield and the secondary playing so far back an army could march through the middle. It is weird.

Often, we our D was run against with ease, until Gannon moved the safety's up to stop that and then they threw short passes with ease. We really couldn't stop either and still gave up some bombs.

I concede that DB is the highest priority tonight. I think we probably are still short a LB.

Arceaga-Whiteside wants to convert to a TE. Perhaps it would be better to convert him to a DB.

At least looking at ESPN draftcast there are no DB's on the best available list (top 25) as our pick approaches. I wonder if we are about to see another trade

Amazingly enough Dean is still there when the Eagles pick in the third round. Not the biggest need, but wildly the beat player available.

Crazy, they get Nakobe Dean in the third round, a guy that I was somewhat hoping they would take in the first round.
