I don't want the Eagles to lose. I just wouldn't be disappointed if they did.

I was a big Pederson and Reich fan. I hope Sirianni proves me wrong. It really seems like a coaching problem and not a talent one.

I would have had no problem with the Eagles tanking and trying to get a Top 5 pick. It's also unfortunate the Dolphins pick will likely not be Top 10. But at this point the value of this season as experience, playoff included, is at least as high as the value of picking 14th or 15th instead of 19th.

Lurie and Roseman chose this path (the unproven head coach, the second-year second-rounder at QB), it didn't have to be this way. But if they do make the playoffs this year Sirianni's likely going to be here 3-4 years barring another Chip Kelly-like reversal. Conversely, if they had been 5-12 this year they were still going give him another year to learn on the job, if not two.

It would also be different if they weren't sticking with Hurts. Then you'd want that higher pick even more, and you could have turned the team over to a back-up and not care if losses affected his devlelopment (of course Minshew might have also won these games).

I specifically brought up the Giants trade for this reason. Although I wasn't assuming a 14th pick as an example, but do you really value getting beat in the wildcard more valuable than a future 1st round pick?

But the Giants had the 11th pick. I agree it might have still been nice to pick 11th, whether for the pick or the trade value. But that poor a finish is no longer on the table. The team started doing better, and the schedule is also too weak.

And were they not doing better, we'd be talking aboult which QB to draft, instead of whether a playoff game might be a good experience for Hurts and the coaching staff.

It'll go how it goes, they could still mess this up, and also the assumption that the Cowboys won't have anything to play for may not be correct. But we could also be looking at 7-2 playoff game with the Cowboys and I'd be hard-pressed to pass that up, even if it would stink to lose.

I disagree on a few levels (not that my line of thinking is better). I personally don't think that any QB in this draft is better than Hurts, but I also think Hurts is a huge asset that fans will dismiss. If you put him in Arizona's offense he'd probably be a top 10 QB. I also don't think the Eagles have played anyone since the Broncos and they weren't even that good... so probably the Chargers. The most recent fan approval is from recency bias from wins against horrible opponents. A lopsided loss in the playoffs is not worth more than... let's say... 6 spots in the draft. Then again, it's most likely because I don't have any faith in the current coaching staff.

I don't see how anyone at this point could claim they have no faith in the current coaching staff. They have taken a team short of talent with essentially a rookie QB who was not drafted in the first round and gotten them to a .500 record and established the #1 rushing offense in the NFL. They are leading the NFL in fewest points allowed on defense since week 8. What exactly did you expect them to do with this team, that was predicted by most to lose 10-14 games this season? I think Siriani is in the discussion for coach of the year to be honest.

The team being short on talent is an odd narrative. Hurts was runner up in the Heisman to the best QB season in NCAA history. They have a Heisman WR. An all pro in Kelce. Lane Johnson. Mailata is a beast. Dickerson is a great talent. Goedert is a great TE. Quez is very underrated.

The defense is underrated because of the scheme.

This is seriously recency bias. They haven't played anyone in over a month.

If you like the talent that much then I think you should have faith in the owner and GM who put this team together. They hired the coaching staff. They made a decision that this wasn't a rebuilding year. I don't personally feel that way myself, but here they are fighting for a playoff spot, and the team is moving in a forward direction, so I'm on board for the ride. Back when they were 4-6 I certainly didn't expect (or want) it.

Teddy Bridgewater (whom I like a little, but he's not a great QB)
Trevor Siemian
Daniel Jones... LOSS
Zach Wilson
Garrett Gilbert
Jake Fromm/Mike Glennon

The don't make the schedule, nor do they determine who plays for the opposition. They won 5 of the 6 games you listed. That's pretty darn good in the NFL regardless of who is throwing the ball for the opposition.

You can't have it both ways...either the talent isn't that good and the coaches have done a fine job, or the talent is good and Rosenman has done a fine job. It's not bad talent and bad coaching yet they are in the playoff hunt.

I'm actually not down on Howie, but this argument seems terrible. Howie can hire the coach and draft the players, but has no say in how the players are used.

Then again, I never wanted Reid to be fired and fans seemed to love Chip Kelly, so what do I know.

Again, you're wrong. Howie has had some recent great drafts and the team has talent.

The coaches have done a good job at beating bad teams and a horrible job against good ones.

Yes, Howie most likely hired the wrong coach.... so bad on him for that one.

Davis Mills put up 41 points today on the Chargers. EVERY NFL team is capable of winning, even with crappy QBs playing. It's an accomplishment every week to get a win in the NFL. It's actually pretty hard to beat the bad teams.

The six teams you listed have more than 30 wins among them. Did they beat high school teams?

And, honestly, evidence actually indicates you're worong, at least according to the analysts writing about the NFL right now, who know a boatload more about football than you do. Listen to Cosell, or Baldinger, or Daniel Jeremiah, or Zach Berman, Sheil Kapadia, or Bo Wolf on the Athletic. You must be Michael Barkann's burner account.

YUP. 5. Not zero. 5 wins against NFL teams. Teams trying to beat them, whose players get paid to play football.

I'm so tired of people calling pro athletes and teams "crappy" just because a team you think isn't that good beat them. That schtick is really, really played out.

I was all for tanking when the Dolphins and Colts were both struggling and it looked like the Eagles would get three top ten picks, but now, the picks are all getting worse and we'll probably end up with two picks between 11 and 20 and one between 20 and 30, it's not as great a haul, so the Eagles might as well give it a shot.

I fully expect the Eagle to move one of the two later first round picks for a first round pick in the following draft if the player they wanted is off the board. It's not a great draft for offensive players, but the defensive players in the draft are solid and the Eagles could really do a mostly defense draft. They also could add more picks by trading Minshew, Dillard, etc... so it could be a bountiful draft.
