I would hate to see the Eagles do this. Save the money to fill other holes. Hurts, with a huge bump in the road against Giants, has generally been on a decent uptrend. Sirianni is calling plays that fit Hurts' style better. Let's see what the two of them can do together next season. We can afford a major FA if we don't trade for an expensive QB. That and three first rounders plus a mid-second and mid-third rounder allow us to realistically fix 3-5 holes, at least for longer term.

For now, QB doesn't make my top 6 of team needs: DE, S, LB, WR, OG/C, CB

I think it's just your standard hot stove stuff. Everything certainly seems to be trending towards Hurts getting at least one more year. The time for a Cousins (or Bradford) type or first-round pick would be after that, though they could still take a flier on one this year.

Of course I think you still ask about Wilson, and consider Watson, but the latter still seems unmovable (nor would I like them to do it).

When this season started, how many realistic phans thought that this team would end up over .500 and be a WC contender? That the Bir are in such a position is largely due to the play of Hurts. He’s not a perfect QB specimen at this time but he only has one full year under his belt and that under less than ideal circumstances. The end of last season was a disaster. A change in coaching staffs didn’t help his growth. Sirianni figured out how best to use Hurts five games into the season and it’s worked. Run the damn ball and throw off of that. Hurts is the ideal QB for that attack. IDK how long Hurts will last getting hit by NFLers but so far it’s workout. If he can master throwing some long balls, things will get even better. He’s not and never will be a pocket passer but in today’s NFL the pocket passer may well be a thing of the past.

I honestly think that Hurts is a good QB for at least 3-4 years. As a total player he is successful, he is a genuine threat when he has the ball.

He will have to develop his passing significantly once he can no longer run like this, but until he is 28 or so or until the gets hurt badly he is a big positive. He was the best QB in the league for a 4-5 game period this year.

To me there is no way he shouldn’t start next year assuming he stays healthy.

His offensive scheme, play designs, and play-calling have been really good over the last 6 weeks--having him in his normal role should be helpful, indeed.

A team averages 5.0 yards per carry, leads the league in rushing and set a modern record in running the ball in 7 games, and yet can’t figure out not to throw the ball 6 of the first 7 plays (the one run was for 11 yards and a first down).

A magic 8 ball could call better plays.

I wasn't too worried either way but they sure shook off the cobwebs.

I didn't much care if they made the playoffs for most of the season but at this point it would obviously be a good experience and additional period of evaluation/growth.

Yea, I agree, I can’t really see a 2nd playoff game this year, but to sneak in and get the “bubble” popped for most of these guys would be good. Hurts is learning, fast, and there is a lot to like about him. Sirianni is learning painfully slowly, but he is getting better. I guess Gannon has saved his job, which I am not convinced is good. His bend-don’t-break approach is 20-30 years too late, good teams are going to eat him up.

And who knows, maybe we somehow get a bad weather playoff game, in which we might be favored in a blizzard. Sadly there are no hosting teams that are likely to have a blizzard.

The Eagles haven't played an NFL QB since the Chargers? That was November 7th. Bridgewater is decent, but thought he was injured at the time. Either way, the last 5-6 games have been easy and they lost to the Giants.

Anything can happen in the playoffs, but this doesn't seem like a good team.

It's not a good team but is there really that much of a difference between any 7-10 team and any 9-8 team? Or even a 10-7 team? The 17-game season makes the spread feel a little wider, but not sure it is.

And it's still the NFC East, which has one good team, and was a joke last year.

I don't think this is an "anything can happen" type playoffs goal. Just an extra game. A more meaningful exhibition game. And with the expanded playoff format you don't really get to steal one against a weak division winner (at least not as the 7th or 6th seed).

Eagles are a t4eam that might be scary to play---they run the ball so well, and if you make offensive mistakes trying to drive the ball downfield the Eagles' D will take advantage. They just can't play that "give the QB an 80% completion rate" D. I hope Gannon can figure out how to avoid allowing that nonsense.

Do you want to see a bad playoff game or rebuild towards a future? If it's not an "anything can happen", then the Eagles are simply giving up value by looking good against bad teams.

There is value to giving players experience in a playoff race and a playoff game. And at this point the difference between picks is not significant.

I never want to see a team I follow lose just to get a better draft position.. I really wish all major sports would stop tying draft position to W/L records. It promotes tanking, encourages losing and rewards it.

The players experience doesn't matter much when a new coach will be here for the next playoff run. And your comment about the difference between picks is most likely wrong.

EDIT: Please see the 10-15 picks in 2021 and what the Giants got from moving down from #11
