Well, Pederson also said everyone was under evaluation, so it sounds like he simply misspoke. Staley should, IMHO, get legit consideration. But, they have to look at outside folks as well.

Well, he definitely misspoke. But it was pretty definitive before he backtracked. “Both of those guys will be back,” followed by a long statement on how well they did coaching up the undermanned offense is a lot to walk back. Especially when the statement came 48 hours after the last game had ended. How much more "evaluation" did he really do since yesterday? What probably changed was a meeting with the higher-ups.

Not that it really matters that much IMO. It's still Doug's game plan and Doug's play-calls. Groh's job was basically "passing game assistant." You gotta wonder how many of those bigger former head coach names would really be interested, though a job's a job. Kafka would be pretty par for the course (and he can't be promoted now that no one's hired Bieniemy, who is in a similar "doesn't call the plays" situation with Andy).

No one questioned Josh McCown's toughness before Sunday's Eagles game, but now we have one more log for the storytelling fire.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported that McCown tore his hamstring off the bone in the second quarter of the 17-9 loss to the Seahawks and played through the injury.

McCown will undergo surgery, with a six-month recovery timetable, Garafolo added.

It is funny looking at the reaction to this on the internet which, as we all know, often has less thoughtful comments. Ever single comment on the ESPN site is "our DBs were terrible so this guy must be awful". Not a single post on the obvious fact that having a ton of injured DBs makes the coach work with guys who shouldnt be in the NFL.

One fair criticism of this guy is probably that Rasul Douglas and Sdney Jones have not progressed. I actually blame injuries for Jones, we dont know if he is good or not, he has been intermittently hurt and I am not sure he wont still develop into something if he can stay on the field. Douglas really might be better suited as a Safety.

Undlin has made do with some very marginal players and has gotten guys prepared very fast. I am not sure we are not going to miss this guy.

Jags offense was a mess. Don't know if it was DeFillipo's fault, but it's sure not a positive factor in bringing him back.

Along with the fact that he didn't last a whole year in Minny after he was hired. If Press Taylor moves on I'd be fine bring him back as a QB coach -- he just might not have been ready for the OC job when he got it -- ala McDermott om the other side of the ball when Andy promoted him pretty quickly.

I wonder how much of this is Schwartz' scheme where he seems to use a safety a lot in the box to stop the run at the risk of leaving the DB's on an island a lot. Even then, Douglas seems to do a good job when he has outside coverage responsibility and has the sideline as his friend. Or in what looks like zone coverage. Cruelly, one of the few times I remember him nailing an inside route in man coverage was last year when he jumped Cooper's route against Dallas and broke the pass up but then had the ball bounce in the air and Cooper caught it for the winning TD. He just might not be a shutdown guy and lord knows there are a ton of those in the league (especially as backup). But I think the Eagles are still better off with him on the roster than without him. Maybe it is as much not having strong run stopping LB's that leads to some of these situations as a third derivative consequence of the resulting scheme -- I haven't seen much of Schwartz before he came to Philly.

I was thinking that myself. I'm not necessarily in favor of bringing him back. Not opposed either. I'd interview him and see if he beats out any other OC candidate.

I think Groh was relieved of his duties on merit.
