A Big disaster. Poor very poor. i was hoping Ruben was not making this trade and it looks like Howie caved. big Fleece. There have now made their bed and it is with Hurts. Wow, after 4 games! Unless..... this year's draft. We'll see.

Hurts may be in a back-up role again if a top QB falls to pick 6, and it's a guy they like.

Taking a QB in the first round would validate the drafting of Hurts as a disaster.

They get rid of the HC and then, they get rid of the starting QB and #2 overall pick from a few years back. Seems like they are trimming symptoms and not the cause. If we have to replace the QB we brought in to replace the "franchise" QB with yet a 3rd QB, that's Tin Cup like emptying our golf balls into the lake out of sheer stupidity.

I don't think taking a QB would be stupid. Most second-round QBs are at best back-ups. If you like Hurts, draft a WR; if you don't and a QB drops you can't worry about sunk costs.

Wentz has only one more year left in guaranteed money...that contract isn't really that bad.

that's a terrible trade for the eagles...there is no way they shouldn't have gotten a 1st in that trade.

The 2022 Second is a first if Wentz doesn't get hurt. No way he plays less than 75% of snaps if he's healthy.

I think it would still be Hurts' job to lose even if they got Fields or Wilson. And who knows which guy the Eagles like. Would you even dare to take another NDSU QB? Lance didn't play this season (except for one game) so I doubt he's ready to step right into a starting job. There's an argument for just taking a year to see what Hurts has - they'll likely have a good draft pick next year either way - but also an argument for letting the new staff get started with two young QBs immediately.

Everything that's happened says they like Hurts though. He's also probably better-equipped than Wentz to deal with competition, given his own college history.

So the conditional pick is based on Wentz making X number of starts, nothing more?

The Eagles had no leverage really, since they couldn't plausibly say "we'll just keep him if we don't get an offer we like." Even if they did say that.

Add on Wentz's agent undoubtedly lobbying behind the scenes to be reunited with Reich and Taylor (and on a team with a better chance of success than Chicago) and there it is.

Okay, found the info. It's a 2022 first-rounder if

Wentz plays 75% of the Colts’ offensive snaps in 2021.
Wentz plays 70% of the Colts’ offensive snaps in 2021 and the Colts make the playoffs.

And I suppose it's also possible that if Wentz falls apart, the Colts also aren't a playoff team, and the second-rounder gains a little value.

They need to draft offensive, non-QBs with earlier pick. They are not going to find a QB at 6 who can thrive with the current cast and the D is also weak. The Eagles are going to have a primo pick in 2022 and can take a QB then, if Hurts doesn't pan out. Amazing Howie is still employed. Just shows the value of keeping the owner entertained and allowing him to meddle in big decisions on draft day.

I think we're tougher on Howie than he deserves. He has a long history with the team and did put together the roster that won our only Super Bowl. He needs to get the drafts right in 2021 and 2022 going forward, though. They could use both a WR and Pitts in round 1 this year, but I don't think they have the ammo to get both. They may be able to trade down and get wither Waddle or Pitts and climb back up to get a strong defensive prospect in the late part of round 1. They have a lot of viable draft strategies; let's hope they like Hurts and are right about it.

My call is that Wentz is in a post concussion fog such a Nolan Patrick was in with the Flyers. Check how Keith Primeau tried to work through his concussion issues. Wentz may come out of lala land and he may not. That shot to the head that he took from Clowney in the '19 PO game with Seattle is what did in Wentz. It was as brutal of a shot to the head that you'll ever see in football.
Like with many concussion situations, the victim sees what they normally see and thinks that they are reacting as they normally do but they're not. Things are out of sync. Its frustrating for the victim as well as those around them. I don't doubt that Wentz saw his play this season as fine but the truth was that things were not as he saw them.
Its best that he is out of town. Another season of this type of play and behavior and it would have been tough for him to be in the city. We'll have to see how things go for him in Indy. Maybe he's fixable; may be not. Brain injuries are unpredictable.

Just a bad deal. My guess is that most of what was wrong with Wentz is that he was behind a laughably bad OL and had no WR. On a better team he will quickly return to what he was.

Obvious that it will either be a late first round pick or a mid-late 2nd round next year. The colts will obviously bench Wentz for the last part of the season if they are not in contention.

This could easily be the move that costs Howie his job after his lame duck 2021 season. He had 3drafts that should have cost him his job, but he got another chance. This trade didn’t help save him.

Just as Amaro didn't really do anything Montgomery (and Middleton) wasn't on board with, Howie is always on the same page with Lurie (including the drafts). A lame duck doesn't get to hire a new coaching staff, nor make this trade.

In context it's not a terrible trade. A while back when this all seemed unthinkable I wondered if Wentz would even be as valuable as Sam Bradford was when the Eagles traded him, and this is slightly better than that.

In hindsight, it really does look like the Hurts pick reflected the fact that they didn't trust Wentz to stay healthy and effective, and the real blunder appears to be the contract, but not giving him the contract would have had its own set of problems (much like Dallas has with Dak now).

I'm surprised that most fans think this is a bad trade. After the Goff trade, I didn't expect much, if anything, back.

I hope Reich can turn Wentz around and the trade can work for both teams, but Howie crushed this trade considering Wentz's play last year and his contract.

As far as Wentz suffering from a bad OL.....

Ray Didinger on the radio today stated there were no offers other than the Colts offer and the Colts knew this. The Bears never made an offer, only inquires. Once Wentz indicated he wasn't sure he wanted to go to Chicago, their interest ended. So there really were only two options, trade him to Colts for whatever they offer, or keep him.

I wish Wentz the best, but I don't think he's the same QB. He's taken a lot of damage for a guy his age. Even had they not drafted Hurts and benched Carson, I think the Wentz era would have ended poorly.

Reminds me of when the Phillies traded Schilling to the Diamondbacks. Schilling had his no-trade clause restricting a trade to a list of six teams and the Diamondbacks were the only team on the list interested in trading for him so the 'Backs were basically able to name their price.

I think Curt's no-trade clause was total, those were the only teams he was willing to waive it for after the fact. Which is a curious position to take when you just went out, but also leverage that he earned. Carson really didn't. But in both cases there was simply no way the team could afford to keep the unhappy player.

The return on the Schill trade wasn't terrible, it was more that the Phillies wanted major-leaguers. I reckon their scouting (i.e. thinking Lee and Daal might still be good) was worse than their negotiating (and you could wonder the same about Cliff Lee trade years later). The other two guys were actually a pretty good return, even if the Phillies didn't keep Figueroa for ever long (though they also got him back).

Congrats, he just described a situation in which 20 QBs can succeed in the NFL. The difference is that Wentz was truly terrible last year. I don't think Pederson helped, but it seemed like the relationship was over. Hurts stepped in and was better as a rookie. We're really blaming Howie that Hurts was better? Awesome.

Hurts was better. He wasn't good. Pederson's record with sub QBs was better than with Wentz. I think the relationship between Wentz and Eagles initially soured because Wentz never got over Foles winning the SB and getting lions-share of credit for championship. Then in his only playoff game, Wentz gets knocked out, before the game has really begun. He knows those were his chances for glory and that later Eagles teams lacked talent. The final blow was when Hurts, rather than another skill player to help him win was the #2 pick. It all makes Wentz seem awfully immature, but in a way it is a natural reaction. The parade was Foles' parade. What is worse, the injury was a dumb play where Wentz ran upright into endzone between two defenders who demolished him in a situation where that play wasn't needed. Wentz never slid at end of runs, leading to his concussion injury. He was a reckless player, but unable to blame himself. Yes, he was/is a ferocious competitor, but other QBs who are keen competitors dive out of bounds and hold the ball inside pylon. Other competitive QBs slide at end of runs. Other QBs get rid of the ball in hopeless situations. His many turnovers rest a lot on his own shoulders. Still, he deserved a better receiving corps. Thanks, Jeff Lurie and his bosom bud.
Wentz is lucky to be able to move to a much better situation, where he has an actual chance, with a staff that believes in him and players whom he hasn't already pissed off. In Philly it would have been two more seasons of big losses and heavy hits.
